Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by uglyiq on Jun 25, 2009 15:17:04 GMT 1, **SPONSORSHIP HELP REQUESTED**
Huge thank you to all the generous forum members who offered their support We have all 16 sponsors now and will be booking our trip on Monday
NEW SPONSORSHIP AMOUNT IS £14 thanks to bizarre train saver deal cost has been cut to £22 per pupil ...so they might even get an ice cream too if they agree to walk from the train station to the museum instead of catching the bus
GOOD NEWS Given the 100% legitimate nature of this show it's the first time I've been able to propose taking an organised school trip to a Banksy Exhibition.... BAD NEWS Large %age of our pupils have VERY limited means & school has strict policy re offering trips that are affordable to most if not all students. Cost is £30 per pupil (16 in the group)
COULD YOU SPONSOR A SCHOOLKID TO GO TO THE SHOW ? I'm trying to find 16 sponsors who could contribute £20 REVISED AMOUNT £ 14 towards the cost of the trip, leaving each pupil needing just £8-10 which the school considers: a/affordable b/will pay themselves if necessary
For now I'm just trying to get 16 names who agree in principle
Letters/emails will be sent from the school next week confirming the details & arrangements for the sponsor money. **Please don't send any money to me personally** Fingers crossed if it all goes ahead I'll post a few pics and send some through for sponsors
Apologies for "using" this site for a financial appeal but I believe there are members here who would be happy to contribute
If you'd like any more details please PM or email to: bel.email@virgin.net

The fact that you were trying to sell a flyer from a previous Banksy show for £50 might have something to do with it.

To everyone else please let me know if you want a banksy show leaflet as i can pop down to the show to pick one up for you. It gives me a good excuse to go see it again

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by fuzzed on Jun 25, 2009 17:54:28 GMT 1, Was just about to post to ask about queues. My missus wants to check it out on Sat, I went opening weekend, got their 9:30 and queued for til opening at 10. Just wondering whether to set off stupidly early again or just turn up at some point throughout the day on sat?!

Make it a condition that each of the writes 100 words describing the day

I find it kinda funny that the NHS is gonna fund more tuition for the fat chick to "study" in the US that I was reading about yesterday... while, as is the norm in the US as well, it comes down to personal pleas & donations for actual educational experiences for kids that may change their lives forever... Seems kinda f**ked up to me, kinda like holding a bake sale to buy school books while the government throws around BILLIONS and TRILLIONS for defense and bail-outs...
That said I would love to help out so keep me in the loop... ;D

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by jamo on Jun 26, 2009 10:38:52 GMT 1, I went yesterday at approx. 1pm. Park Street was very busy, it was a university open day next door and the sun was shining. Despite what looked like a fairly long queue, I was inside the main Banksy room within 20 mins. Oh and there may have been a few Glastonbury peeps there too on their way down to the festival. So, all in all, not a long wait.
I loved it. Absolutely brilliant. The brush work on the Monkey Parliament (?) piece is amazing. You can tell the Banksy fans - they take time to study all the amazing detail in the Banksy 'studio' set - stencils, sketches, etc. What impressed me too was the cross-section of people there - young to very old. Granted, some were there unawares and were visiting the other museum rooms and had no choice but to go through the Banksy main exhibition room, but if I had a pound for every OAP or school kid who smiled and took pics of the Banksy pieces, I'd be a wealthy man.....
