Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by chief on Aug 23, 2009 18:16:14 GMT 1, I got there at 10am and the queue was 5 1/2 hours today. I flew into London from New York specifically for this, slept literally one hour, took the train over, upon which both train attendants failed to give me my credit card back. So when I got there and was 4 people in front of the attendant at the end with the sign I was not having it. He said 5 1/2 hours and we STILL weren't guaranteed entry which scared me. I chatted with the people around me whom were all nice, then decided to go down to the bottom and walk back up while filming a video of the longest queue I've ever seen. When I got down there, something just completely struck me to walk from the one large portion to the smaller portion near the entrance. I acted as if I belonged there and the lady handed me a pamphlet. The guy in front of me said "nice one" and I told them my story. Waited in the line about 10 minutes and the lady behind me was like "where's you're stamp?!?!" And started flipping out on me causing a very awkward scene. So I hung my head in shame and walked out of the line. As I got back to the pamphlet lady I let her see that I was on the queue side and said "they forgot to give me by stamp" and acted really upset, and said something to the effect I had to leave the line to use the bathroom then my girlfriend got in while I was in there, blah blah, so she took me over and gave me a stamp! went back in the line, kept my head down, and eventually got in, no more than 10 minutes later. I really felt bad about it to be honest, but I really had zero choice. I came halfway around the world not knowing the queues would be this out of control.
Show was really impressive I might add and I got in and got out because of my guilt. Probably no more than 30 minutes.
It was a nice feeling coming into Bristol. It was almost as if this was Banksy's gift to the city and you were going to a friends hometown. All the tourism isgenerating some much needed cash during this economy, it's almost ironic the man who "devalues" walls does so much in so many ways. I love it.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by sug on Aug 23, 2009 23:55:49 GMT 1, I was expecting queues but nothing like this. Stupidly thought it'd get quieter as the show went on but it looks like the opposite has happened.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by Daniel Silk on Aug 24, 2009 15:13:08 GMT 1, what are the queues looking like in the week? i'm going on wednesday and am not sure what time i should aim to join the line...
Going by how it was last wednesday, I would leave it as late in the day as you dare! To me it looked like a mad rush in the morning with people thinking its best to get their early, and then that dies down in the afternoon. I guess on Wednesday it might then get busier after 6 with people finishing work and trying to get in before 8.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by bert on Aug 24, 2009 15:59:55 GMT 1, I went yesterday too - got there at 8.30am and was told it was at least a 4hr wait. I prob would have done it had I been my own, but I was with my missus and she had some stuff that needed doing in the day. Quite gutted to miss it, was really disappointed. My own fault though, will have to get along straight away next time before the press start banging the drum.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by annar50 on Aug 24, 2009 22:17:53 GMT 1, i went today !
got there at 10am , queues were massive. waited until 2.30 to get inside. personally i think they should of made it a entrance fee of ยฃ5.00. which lots of people would of not have paid to see this show, just a bunch of free loaders and lots of tossers in the queues

Has anyone tried leaving it late and getting in quicker? I'm thinking mid-late afternoon as there's a late opening tomorrow.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by rosstierney on Aug 25, 2009 21:21:14 GMT 1, if anyone's planning to go before it closes on the 31st, i'd advise you to get there @ 08:00-8:30. if you can't make it at that time, i wouldn't bother. no matter what, you've got a 2-3 hour minimum wait so be prepared. we're talking waterproof jackets, fold away stools, reading material, music etc. any later & you're looking @ 3-6 hours depending. there didn't seem to be a problem with leaving the queue for food/drink either. leave the camera @ home. it's just too busy & people have already done the job for you/better than you don't let the crowd surrounding the studio mock up put you off. patience will get you to the front & trust me, it's worth the wait. a few pieces have been moved about & as far as i could see, the case of di-faced tenner's have been removed completely?
my journey went a little something like this: woke @ 04:30, on the motorway for 05:30, 200 miles later arrived @ 08:15, queued till 11:00, in the show till 13:00-14:00, went for food, forgot where i parked so walked around for 40 minutes! drove 50 miles before nearly falling asleep @ the wheel so slept @ a service station for 2 hours before arriving home sweet home @ 20:15.
