Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by Deleted on Aug 26, 2009 0:57:00 GMT 1, so do you reckon if i rock up tomorrow afternoon i might get turned away? probably not because it's open late of a wednesday but i'm pretty sure you'll have to queue for 3-6 hours
I will call them before i leave just to check, fingers crossed. I hate queues, i feel compelled to speak to the pepole next to me in the queue.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by dzjiezes on Aug 26, 2009 9:09:26 GMT 1, Banksy... Bristol... Bloody Brilliant !
Got home last night (Brussels) after two brilliant days in Bristol. Took the Eurotunnel last Sunday evening and arrived in Bristol at about 10 pm. Was a bit of a search to find the hotel but we were happy when we drove past the museum... We knew where we had to be a few hours later. Anyways, hotel was so and so, but we didn't care as we were there for Banksy and not for luxurious hotels
Slept really bad, nerves I guess... woke up about 4-5 times during night. At 6.20 am, decided it was time to shower and get ready. Normally, I'm not the morning type of a person, but Monday morning seemed an exception. I was sharp as a knife. We left the hotel at 7am, got to the museum at 7.15 and there were about 40 people waiting, sitting on the floor... Sipping coffees, reading books etc. Everyone seemed excited, I had goosebumps. Last time I felt like that must have been ages ago; you know the feeling the night before Santa Claus comes and you're dead excited. You know something is gonna happen but you just don't know what exact? My missus was having a laugh 'cos there I was; happy as ever 'cos I had to wake up at 6 and had a few hours queuing ahead.
The wait was ok. The guy who sells The Big Issue was great. Big Jamaican Rastafari kind of guy "no worries mista, sun will shine todeeeey". Left the queue a few times (Pret a manger is cool) and saw how it grew to dramatic proportions. Museum staff decided to open at 9.30 and off we went.
As most of the people, I had seen many pics and clips about the museum, so I kinda knew what to expect. Still, it blew me away. Going to musea is always an individual experience, but here everyone seemed to be on the same wavelenght. Laughs, people in awe (the Parliament painting is brilliant in real) and people wondering if that little thing was a Banksy or not.
The fun part to me was the search for Banksy stuff in the nature, archeology "department". I think many people just didn't know there was some stuff there as well. Ok, it wasn't that much but to me these things were like little surprises and fun to search for. I spoke to one of the museum staff and the guy said Banksy keeps on moving stuff, replacing things etc. Don't know if he does it frequently or not but still; I couldn't find the rat with spraycan which was supposed to be somewhere in the "british wildlife section".
Never felt too busy in the museum although I really wanted to re-enter the first room (where parliament, his studio and other stuff is) but didn't want to queue for another few minutes. That room was actually the only one where it felt crowded. There's just soooo much to see and take pictures of.
The animatronics seemed to work all fine, the copper near the ice cream van was the only thing that didn't work. Cops need a break too, I guess.
After just over 2 and a half hours inside, we left with big smile on our faces. We strolled through the city (checked out a few of his works) and that was it.
It was bloody brilliant !

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by ricobenfico on Aug 26, 2009 21:38:35 GMT 1, Gulp! I'm heading down from Edinburgh after work on Friday with a stop over in Birmingham. Then driving down to the show early on Sat morning. Sounds like we need to be in the queue by 8am (or earlier if possible I know). As someone said above, it would be easy to be put off by the queues but this can't be missed.
Any other forum members going this Sat that wanna swap numbers if you end up higher up the queue than I do?!?! Vice versa obviously!

there are bound to be tourists ! It ain't just people from Bristol who go, that's right. I don't understand why an artist is "selling out" if tourists or "middle aged women" do want to check out his work. I think a lot of people just want to check out what all "the fuss" is about. Yeah, there are bound to be people who aren't as big a fan as you may be, but hey they didn't care to wait 4-5 or even 6 hours so I think they are pretty fanatic as well
peace

The hotel was only a 7 minute walk from the museum. I went to the show last Wednesday and started queuing at 8.15 a.m. and was in the museum at about 12 p.m.
Unfortunately the postcards where sold out , so if someone has a spare set that he/she wants to sell me please let me know. I would be very thankful

Queues for Banksy's Bristol show hit six hours
With less than a week until it closes, people are queuing for up to six hours to see the Banksy exhibition in Bristol.
Staff at Bristol Museum turned away anyone who had not joined the queue before 11.30am on Sunday, because they did not stand a chance of getting in.
The museum in Park Street was opened half an hour early, at 9.30am, as people were queuing as far back as Woodland Road.
Despite the unprecedented response and interest from around the world, Bristol City Council is insisting there will be no more late-night openings, other than those already planned for this Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
On the other remaining days opening hours will remain 10am until 5pm.
The council has also decided it will not have regular early openings, despite the fact people often queue outside the front door from 7am.
The elusive artist has reportedly insisted Banksy Versus Bristol Museum only goes on show until next August 31.
The council says it cannot provide staff for what has turned out to be one of the most successful cultural events in the city's recent history.
The council says staff have to be properly trained in case of emergency, so they cannot simply draft in extra people.
Council spokesman Helen Hewitt said: "Staff are well aware of the huge demand to see the exhibition and are working additional hours to meet the agreed, extended opening times.
"To enable more people to see the exhibition, the museum will now be open from 10am to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.
"There are also late-night openings until 8pm on Wednesday."
"Staff at the museum have been tremendous, they have worked extremely hard over the past 12-weeks, working very long hours and in difficult conditions.
"We have received many comments of support and thanks from members of the public regarding the staffing of the museum during the Banksy exhibition."

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by scoote on Aug 29, 2009 0:02:55 GMT 1, So that would be 'q', 'cue', or 'queue', all aceptabel, they opened at 8.30a.m. this morning. I would think that this would be the case for the next three days or maybe they will open at 8, as they seem to be opening half an hour earlier every day. If you havent made it yet then I would suggest that you do. After the exhibition, head down the hill to the Stokes Crofts Peoples Republic. They will give you sound advice on other places and pieces worth visiting, although one of the shopkeepers is rather deaf. At one point she apologised and asked if she was shouting ! Anyway if you are around that area and see Kinos cafe, get yourself a falaffel they are rather sublime, one might say.
