FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by spencerlee on Mar 18, 2009 12:28:46 GMT 1, I would not be surprised if people sign up for this lottery and then end up not paying when the invoice turns up. There may well be a second draw in a few days time for those not lucky tomorrow.
Well, a lot of this went on last time, people signing up for multiples, asking people on here which to buy, and then many sales threads trying to recoup the money.

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by moleman on Mar 18, 2009 12:47:31 GMT 1, I also like faile i also like the fair q when i win or lose, and im sure im just making the same point again but if banksy can why cant the rest of the art scene. Im sure he is pretty rich even though his prints used to be cheap but he and pow new that nola etc could be flipped but still it was cheap.I just hope he does not start churning different colour ways and unsigned to cash in. Failes prints are v nice but i shall not be going for them good luck pez what has banksy's or anyone elses wealth got to do with faile's recent release? You dont know what he does with his money, for all you know he could be giving every penny to charity, but to sit their and suggest confidently about his wealth and what POW knows or doesn't, you are in no position to make such a statement, unless you work at POW and/or represent Banksy, which i doubt you do neither. Anyone who does know, certainly wouldn't be coming on to this forum and bragging about it. As for the Faile pieces and i guess this goes for all on here, if you dont like their pricing point or the pieces, dont enter the lottery, simple as. Either you can afford them or you cannot, I am sure some of you guys who when trying to sell pieces are not taking the economic meltdown in to consideration, especially with your asking prices!!
nothing to do with banksy was saying that if he can be the biggest artist in the scene and sell prints for 300 quid then why cant the other small artist do it
dont think i put anything about pow and "im pretty sure he is rich" does not denote me saying he is rich. I get what your saying but im not having a go at the fella just a point of veiw of mine. From what i can pick up around here from artist etc i dont think he works and travels around a fair bit and with no full time work would suggest no mortgage which means he is richer than i.
And your right on the last bit i wont enter as i dont wish to waste failes time as im broke but what people on here sell there work for is either market value or normally below. Which is taking the financial crisis into account is it not.

Faile's print model was different to most others (including Banksy) from the beginning - small run hand-worked prints is what made them so special, something POW have only caught onto more recently with their small-run special versions. Note that when Faile do a large edition run, they are priced similarly to Banksy runs.

Agree, I've been pretty underwhelmed by both this release and the past fair q lottery in general. They seem like more of the same old and in regards to this set of releases I’m not particularly taken by the colour palette used. At a push I would take ‘eat with the wolf’ but it would be a push. ‘My confessions’ needs to put to rest, the best run of the image imo is the original paper monster release and every new edition seems to further dilute this fact.
It would be nice to see some new street work from Faile. Always thought that it was a shame that their Glimmering Shadows exhibition produced about 10 paste ups in the obvious locations.

thats why collecting banksys from cost is so hard and yet satisfying when you get one ( i havent) because it will always be good/great art worth more than you paid for it if need be.
Thats all i have to say on pricing the prints are very nice look forward to seeing garett1800 s

Wish they'd released some of those one or two colour prints instead. Out of these I'd go got Eat with the Wolf, the others are a little too garish.

kidding kidding
on the point of these pieces, I actually feel all the additional colour is pretty garish and actually detracts from the Faile style - but perhaps thats just the choice of colours they've used - I think I'd probably agree that the red My Confessions is possibly my favourite, followed by Eat the Wolf print...but I find all the prints pretty poor

Aren't Faile's originals usually stencil sprayed versions?

HS I don't want to patronise you by any means but this shows how little you (or people in general) know about Faile work. No, their originals are not usually sprayed. You're right about these originals looking similar to editioned prints though as the same screen for the main image has been used. In old days these would be considered as Varied Editions.

You don't want to patronise... but you will! Bit arrogant.
Some originals and even small editions are sprayed. I know they use screen printing too, and even the boxes are screened, but they're very much more "original". I wouldn't say these rated as Originals. They're more like one off prints... or as you say "Varied Editions".

I beg to differ here. That's simply not true and hence my arrogant comment. Faile are most famous as a screen printers and although they use stencils in their work most originals they have produced are based on the screen printing technique. And if there is any other technique they use a lot in their work - it would be painting first and then probably stencils.
peace

Looking forward to the remixes of the new imagery. Imagine how cool a zoomed up girl in 'under the sky' would look (with lots of dirty Faile love)...Its all about the remixes for me, I was never keen on the original forbidden love composition but adore the close up remix that is stories of love.

I also think there may be better to come.
Not over keen on the colours on these new releases apart from 'On The Wings Of Faile', such a shame as I have been holding back for these in the hope of being lucky in the lottery, but at least the weak pound has put paid to any temptation I may have had.

Again I agree. I think they are special and mainly because these are not the usual hand finished screen prints. Simple and beautiful. And just to point out how confusing it can be - I am pretty sure some artists/galleries would sell those as "original editions".
BTW Smarty pants - I like that.

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by veralynn on Mar 19, 2009 7:53:07 GMT 1, What was and wasn't released during the last release and how much it cost is a little bit irrelevant IMHO, although for what it is worth there were a number of prints that were released that were considerably cheaper than $2,800. Fact is since then there has been a major economic meltdown of the kind I very much doubt any of us have seen before (and hope we will never see again) and this has led to countless people losing their jobs and homes. It has also led to the price of art plummet. Seperately the pound is now extremely weak against the dollar. Whilst I appreciate that faile are NY based they have a huge UK following and I would wager that the majority of the last few releases have made their way across the atlantic. For faile not to take into account any of these factors or offer a few prints at cheaper pricing is disappointing. And I speak as someone who is a massive faile fan who has been waiting excitedly for this release having been completely unsuccessful in the last 3 faile lotteries.
Wholly agree, as usual.
Whilst I'm a massive fan of correct pricing to ensure that the people who actually want to buy the art (not to immediately profit from it) are able to do so - there should be a little consideration to the general economic climate. Per capita I would wager that there's a lot more of Faile's work on UK walls than US ones (or anywhere else for that matter) and this in my opinion should be recognised. If you alienate your core market then your business will cease to trade.
However this is a business not a charitable flipper foundation....
