FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by Francis on Mar 17, 2009 23:56:08 GMT 1, Huh? I'm almost positive similar sized prints (in full color) that were this size last fall were over $2800. And I'm very positive this size OG print was $12000 last fall. That's a $4000 drop for us Americans but I guess it's still about the same price to you british because the pound has devalued so much. Odd and unfortunate for you guys. It is still definitely a luxury item but I didn't expect and don't think Faile should be getting reamed out so hard for lowering their prices.
Hey man...those "over $2800" prints were all stenciled, with a much small edition size, and those "$12000" OG prints were stenciled as well. Why are you trying to compare different things as if they were exactly the same? They aren't. It is laughable that people think they are lowering their prices. I am laughing.

disagree as well, those stenciled prints last release (w/ get aquainted, forbidden love, ect..) may have been smaller editions BUT in terms of failes overall portfolio of work, there are lot of other editions out there of the sames images...
These are fresh brand new images that have no other variation of them existing in print form... only giant canvas's...

Always good to hear the reality of the matter.
Fact is these images as of now are rare and a bit overpriced particularly if your using the pound. Regardless the amount of work on these prints seem exceptionally heavy, can't wait to see one in person.

Yes, and how do the prices of the non-stenciled work compare? Because that is what we are talking about.

What does that have to do with anything? So they are going to only have one release with these images? Get real homegirl. They are going to have millions of releases with these images in the next five to ten years. You are very naive if you think these images are only going to be in this one release.

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by elwheel on Mar 18, 2009 1:28:22 GMT 1, The website is not impressing me at all. I have to zoom out to get the whole site in view and its playing havoc on firefox - minimising and enlarging the window at freewill. For me the violet Eat with the Wolf is the cream of the crop but I have to say the colouring and sharpness of the whole release is just lust-inducing. As for the pricing...$2800 for a print is fairly outrageous in any currency. It doesn't matter a toot if sterling sucks or blows but that price for what is only a reproduction at the end of the day is bordering on arrogant. I'm not talking about this run by Faile in isolation, I'm talking about the costs of editions/runs/series in general. The process of printing came about by the need to reproduce images and text at a fraction of the price of that formerly produced by illustrators and scribes and in quantities far greater than was within their capacity. I am also aware that market economics just don't seem to want to work that way. Anyone want to start a lobby group to cap prints at £500 max?

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by pezlow on Mar 18, 2009 7:25:23 GMT 1, What was and wasn't released during the last release and how much it cost is a little bit irrelevant IMHO, although for what it is worth there were a number of prints that were released that were considerably cheaper than $2,800.
Fact is since then there has been a major economic meltdown of the kind I very much doubt any of us have seen before (and hope we will never see again) and this has led to countless people losing their jobs and homes. It has also led to the price of art plummet. Seperately the pound is now extremely weak against the dollar.
Whilst I appreciate that faile are NY based they have a huge UK following and I would wager that the majority of the last few releases have made their way across the atlantic.
For faile not to take into account any of these factors or offer a few prints at cheaper pricing is disappointing. And I speak as someone who is a massive faile fan who has been waiting excitedly for this release having been completely unsuccessful in the last 3 faile lotteries.

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by BONZO on Mar 18, 2009 10:16:45 GMT 1, There are going to be three more releases throughout 2009 (my guess = June, September and November!), we may yet get some cheaper prints, but I doubt they'll be less than $1500 for a short run, and they are surely going to to a cheaper/larger edition for the masses (a la Tender Forever, ed 315) via Paper Monster or POW (maybe)... This is all speculation though...
This is a great release, a new body of work (except My Confessions), large prints, low editions, all with a lot of work gone into them.
I'm still not in though, gonna wait see what comes next. And if the flippers are stupid enough to get involved, fine.
If you like it and can afford it, fill your boots!
peace.

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2009 10:26:36 GMT 1, whilst alot of u get tied up in arguing the toss of the coin...the fact is these are editions of 20 for $2800...and we all damn well know there will be further differing versions of these said pieces (Faile have done it before, they'll do it again)...if you look at the last big release there were smaller editioned pieces for less money
now lets also take into account this is the first of 4 releases this year from Faile, the state of the world economy and the fact they've filled their boots more than enough in the last year or so
and the conclusion this brings to my mind is pure unadulterated 'take em for every penny they're willing to spend on us' - greed
I will state again i love failes work - but i find this behaviour outlandish at present

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2009 10:31:17 GMT 1, What was and wasn't released during the last release and how much it cost is a little bit irrelevant IMHO, although for what it is worth there were a number of prints that were released that were considerably cheaper than $2,800.
FUCKING AMEN - GREAT POST

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by moleman on Mar 18, 2009 11:21:22 GMT 1, I also like faile i also like the fair q when i win or lose, and im sure im just making the same point again but if banksy can why cant the rest of the art scene. Im sure he is pretty rich even though his prints used to be cheap but he and pow new that nola etc could be flipped but still it was cheap.I just hope he does not start churning different colour ways and unsigned to cash in.
Failes prints are v nice but i shall not be going for them good luck pez

They kill their own buzz with this sort of thing, and people will lose interest... I have. I'd rather go for a My Confessions (Paper Monster Ed. 170) on Ebay for £450!

FAILE - Join Online Lottery Now!, by silvermyn on Mar 18, 2009 12:16:37 GMT 1, I would not be surprised if people sign up for this lottery and then end up not paying when the invoice turns up.
There may well be a second draw in a few days time for those not lucky tomorrow.
