Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by broke on Apr 2, 2018 10:03:12 GMT 1, Framer used double sided tape to attach to the Matt, could a restorer correct this? Double sided tape is used as ”standard” but it need to be special tabe off course. If it’s too much used and/or the wrong type it depend on the amount and type of tape used but get it directly to a professional restorer to dismount, they will at least have the biggest chance of getting it of in one piece... my framer did a lot of the damage in a similar situation lately
double sided tape is not used as standard, the only real use for it in framing is to attach mounts together. I suggest you find a new framer.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Ragequit McGee on May 10, 2018 9:45:19 GMT 1, Take it to Tim at Darbyshires. He'll get Sarah to look at it who is the best restorer around. I wouldn't trust my prints in anybody else's hands. Are they expensive? I picked up a Dan Hillier screenprint and I don't like how it's mounted in its current frame. The framer I'd taken them to mentioned it was already mounted on the board it came with. Now I know more about these things I'd like it redone...

My framer want to use it, just want to make sure, that it is good and easy enough to remove again.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by troika49 on May 25, 2020 0:10:14 GMT 1, I see a lot of people give suggestions here.
The best advice on this whole topic was a research paper a team of conservators wrote after aging tapes for several years: urbanartassociation.com/thread/162357/which-hinging-tapes-tissues-use
Every single criteria is rated from removability to impact on media.

Or is this one a lot better I only use the best full conservation materials and have a current turnaround time of usually less than a fortnight. T-hinging is the method favoured by most reputable framers. Water gummed acid free tape secured with 2 T hinges grabbing only 5mm of the print is what you should be aiming to do. www.aotframing.com

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by dunkers on May 25, 2020 12:08:49 GMT 1, I’ll ask here rather than start a new thread since it’s tape related.
I float framed a low value print of mine several months ago and used pass through hinges with gummed paper hinging tape. Two hinges near the top and two near the bottom, fixed to the undermount (no foam core shadow gap). Ive now decided that the print would look better with a window mount. To reframe this, should I remove the four hinges and refix the print with t hinges at the top only, or am I better just to leave the print attached to the undermount with the existing hinges?

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Spider Joe on Jun 4, 2020 12:46:53 GMT 1, Hi everyone,
I have a hinge tape question (that has been asked many times before, I know).
I have artwork with my framer and I'm undecided on which hinge tape to use - I have done plenty of research but was wondering if anyone has any reason why I should or shouldn't use the below two hinging tapes for float mounting artwork. Both activated using de ironised water.
RAG Hinging Tape Gummed Museum quality (UK Industrial Tapes)
or
Lineco Hayaku Japanese Hinging Paper (gummed tape)
Thanks in advance

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Schrödinger's Chat on Oct 16, 2020 8:54:30 GMT 1, Okay, I need some help/advice on how to remove masking tape without damaging these Postcards.
I have two Kate Postcards that I bought framed years ago, I've just popped the frame open and seen how they are taped in place. Now that they are worth a few quid I want to remove as carefully as I can.
Any advice on how best to do that?
If it proves to hard I'll just seal it up and enjoy it for what it is on my wall.
Thanks

I would buy some zest it and give that a try, it works miracles. I was talking about it with atom gallery here about a week ago. I've used it on all sorts of tape, but not masking tape. Don't think it would be a problem though as masking tape is quite absorbent.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by bumix on Oct 26, 2020 22:59:47 GMT 1, I bought a framed print and it was advertised as mounted with an archival tape that can be easily removed with a bit of water, the surprise came with more details: the framer used self-adhesive acid-free linen tape, ph7, acrylic adhesive water-based. And it seems to only be removable by carefully peeling it off. And there are 15-20 large stripes used. How bad is this? Do I need to replace it as aging will make it more difficult to remove?

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by artzzzy on Mar 7, 2021 10:08:50 GMT 1, Hi guys,
I’d like to ask you for advice about removing tape from the back of a print.
I bought this print floated in a frame, but it was loose inside the frame when I bought it (I guess the tape on the back dried off or something).
So I basically opened the frame and removed it.
Currently there’s tape at the four corners on the back of the print.
I’m debating whether I should attempt to remove it or just keep it the way it is to not risk making the situation worse.
I’ll upload some pics (once I discover how to do that) to better explain the situation.
Thanks in advance for your advise
Edit: not sure how to add photos here.. so I’m sharing a link from my googlephoto Hope this works

This stuff is amazing and I always recommend it. Just apply with brush and wait a few minutes and the tape should remove easily. Test it on a small area of the print first, but I've never had any problems with it. It looks like it will stain the paper, but once it dries it vanishes.

Wondering what the standard/safest process is for securing a piece to the back of a mount. Is there a particular archival tape that can be removed without affecting the back of prints or is there a different methods for securing prints to the mount that doesn't cause any damage etc. Interested to hear your thoughts!

Would you hinge in all situations, even when just placing a print behind a mount?
