Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by mainlad2005 on Apr 17, 2007 15:52:15 GMT 1, Hi,
I am trying my hand at a little DIY framing but having real trouble finding some appropriate tape.......? I know I need acid free etc but does anyone know a high street stockist or an internet retailer that won't charge the same price for delivery as the bloomin tape itself costs.
OR
is there an alternative to tape......?
Thanks very much

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by thwaites on Apr 17, 2007 17:41:31 GMT 1, where are you based? as there is a great framing supply shop in Birmingham where you can get tape. They do have a website but not sure about delivery prices. Plus i think you have to buy a few rolls together and cant just get one. Or you could just ask your local framer to supply you with a roll, i get mine from my local framers.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by Run Pig Run on Apr 17, 2007 17:45:54 GMT 1, you can get these things that look like giant photo corners to hold the print in place i.e. no sticky stuff on the print, they are also acid-free. ask your local framer?

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by jon0 on Aug 15, 2007 17:03:00 GMT 1, I'm having the same problem.
Lineco make great products for all of this but I can't seem to find a UK internet retailer who supplies any of it. guess a trip to the local framer is the only way to go.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by rydal on Aug 15, 2007 22:47:02 GMT 1, I buy gummed, acid free, paper tape from Hobbycraft. It works well and is fully removable. No more than a couple of quid a roll.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by f5ers on Nov 30, 2007 10:48:17 GMT 1, Wessex pictures.. I use them for heaps of framing supplies and have a good range of tapes etc. www.wessexpictures.com/tapes.html
The Filmoplast 'P90' Tape is ok for cheaper prints if you are hinge mounting and comes off with water (slow process) or the 1" Archival Gummed Tape for more conservation standards. Can't remember if they do the mylar corners but probably do

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by rockhopper on Jan 9, 2007 23:12:46 GMT 1, Hi I have had a custom frame made for a print i have. The frame goes together like this, GLASS MOUNT PRINT HARDBOARD
My question is how do i position and hold the print in place so it doesn't slip behind the mount and how do i keep things square? Also should the print be mounted direct to the hardboard, or should it be on another sheet of card? Where would i use acid free tissue?
Many Thanks

As long as the mount and the backboard are acid free, then tissue paper isn't needed, tissue paper people are talking about is for STORAGE into sleeves.
And use archival tape (so it doesn't go all gluely and crappy with age like cellotape) in as small quantities as possible to either attach print to backboard (if float mounting) or print to mount if mounting within the erm......mount.
And there were already a bajillion threads about framing, we really could have done without another one. But then me being a mug had to go and comment on it. Ho hum.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by CR on Feb 13, 2007 14:13:57 GMT 1, Ok, So I have bought some PH7 neutral conservation tape to hang my print to the mount.
my question is once its attached can it be removed later - it seems pretty sticky stuff (more so than masking tape)

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by absyrd on Feb 13, 2007 15:53:31 GMT 1, Proper archival tapes should not leave a residue or peel layers of the paper under proper conditions. Are you sure it feels that "sticky"? It is supposed to hold stuff together, but it shouldn't feel like the adhesive material is super-thick.
I have a Currier & Ives print from decades ago that I just peeled tape off of... not a mark.

Framing Tape • Archival Tape • Acid Free Tape, by daveh on Oct 20, 2007 9:51:35 GMT 1, I got the 25mm which is strong enough to hold my flying copper which is a fairly big print (about the same size as GIWTBB which I've not got round to doing anything with yet). It was delivered pretty quickly as I recall.
