Framing my first print (my 1st post), by rdl81 on Nov 23, 2008 10:43:10 GMT 1, I have finally (with loads of luck!) managed to get my first print and it is on its way to me in a tube no doubt. I really want to get it up on the wall framed as soon as possible.
As with anything I am sure u get what u pay for but thinking archival is the way to go but what does this exactly mean?
I live in essex so does anyone know of any good framers there and have examples of their work? If not I would head into london.
One last question is it ok to take it to a framer direct in the tube or do i need to buy a portfollio etc to flatten it etc?
Any help appreciated!!!

Framing my first print (my 1st post), by howlinjack on Nov 23, 2008 11:54:37 GMT 1, framing work to an archival standard is dear but you can move down a peg or two in price and the piece will still be quite safe. mount card on the whole is nearly always partially acid free and will not cause damage to your piece. if you go to full archival standards you will limit your choice of mount card down to a few colours and the white aint very white. tru view museum glass is pretty damn expensive. (but it is amazing) whatever you do let the framer know you may at one point want to remove the piece from the frame.
ask the framer not to dry mount the bloody thing either. i've heard a lot of stories over the years of that happening. dry mounted happy chopper went for 5k a few weeks back. try and use the framers recommended on here you wont go wrong.
good luck

Framing my first print (my 1st post), by Heavyconsumer on Nov 24, 2008 15:00:15 GMT 1, Congrat's on your Nola!
Have Mr Frame Man pick it up and work his magic. No need to carry it around that way and he's offering a discount to forum members on his gift vouchers at the moment (20%!!!), so give Gary a call and ask if he'll work something out for you. Otherwise some very well known London framers are Railings or John Jones. Personally, if I were in the UK, I'd be calling Gary/Mr Frame Man.
Howlinmadjack mentioned True View museum glass. I think these are actually 2 different types of glass and the "True View" is very good, but cheaper than and not as perfectly clear as "museum" spec'. You should definitely go to the bottom of this page, click on the drop down menu (where it says "forum jump") and select "Mr Frame Man". You'll find some excellent examples of their work and lots of info' and Q+A about specifications and details to help you better understand and decide what you want. Good luck and take your time and enjoy.

I think you're being extremely paranoid (understatement).
-He and his framer both actively post in here. -He has a huge reputation amongst forum members, which I'm sure he's extremely keen to preserve. -He probably has more personal references in this forum from people he's dealt with, than most of the rest of us put together. -He's clearly very expert when it comes to his trade -Professional Galleries trust him to hang entire shows ;D (And he's never even framed anything for me. Although he's even offered to help me out, here in Brazil, by sending materials over. Couldn't really do much more to win over members of this community imho)

My suggestion is buy yourself a £100 Christmas gift voucher for £80 and make a saving on the job! (or even better get someone else to but it!) Just tell him you read about the discount on Banksy.info. Regarding the framing, I think I'd go for something black and simple, but it's you who has to look at it and be happy! I'm sure Gary and/or Dale will have some good ideas, they usually do!
Good luck, enjoy and again, massive congrat's on the print. More chance of finding a needle in a haystack than landing one, so well done!
