Looking for Framing Suggestions, by rkitek on Aug 23, 2007 17:08:41 GMT 1, I'm looking for a little help in trying to figure out how best to frame an original Swoon piece I have on mylar. The piece measures roughly 4' x 5'. Here is a fairly poor photo of the piece sitting on brown paper, but it will give you some idea of what I'm talking about.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looking for Framing Suggestions, by jam on Aug 23, 2007 18:31:01 GMT 1, Nice piece! If it were mine, I would have it floated on board over a grey background in a narrow black frame with a deep setback to the glass. I think that would give nice perspective and accent the depth of the piece while playing with the shadows Swoon has in the image.

Thanks. I know that the background is going to be key and I like the idea of putting some distance between the glass and the piece. I'm wondering how difficult it would be them to float it on board as they'd have to cut the board to fit behind the piece, right?

Looking for Framing Suggestions, by jam on Aug 23, 2007 18:58:37 GMT 1, Yeah, they will have to cut the backing board but it shouldn't be a big deal for a good framer. I saw a guy frame a drawing on a large odd shaped piece of metal and they projected the piece onto the board and traced it, then cut it out... looked fairly straight forward and the results were stunning. I would expect your Swoon would be absolutely stunning floated in a deep frame.

Looking for Framing Suggestions, by rkitek on Aug 23, 2007 19:04:10 GMT 1, Thanks, I'll take that idea to my framer and see what they can do. Once I have the funds to actually undertake the job, I'll post pics when it's complete.

Looking for Framing Suggestions, by rkitek on Sept 12, 2007 20:48:07 GMT 1, Not yet, but I think I'll make a trip down to the framer this weekend and as soon as it'd done, I'll post pictures.
