Removing fingerprints, by jellya on Jun 12, 2008 15:06:13 GMT 1, Does anyone know how to get fingerprint marks off canvas? I've got a gold painted canvas that shows up the grease from the fingerprints something bad and I was wondering if there was a way I could get them removed. I'm not a perfectionist by any stretch and I don't mind my art being a little rough round the edges if it's been part of the process of creating it, but these marks are always the first things I see when I look at this piece, which is a shame.
They may well have been left by the artist but I'd rather shift them if poss. Any advice would be appreciated.

Removing fingerprints, by Richard on Jun 12, 2008 15:35:48 GMT 1, If it's just dirt try a NEW rubber VERY gently.
I had a finger print on a print and it rubbed straight off...
OR you can use a piece of stale bread - I have heard many people use that method as an alternative.

Removing fingerprints, by jellya on Jun 12, 2008 19:15:12 GMT 1, Thanks Richard. Much appreciated.
I've heard of those methods before in relation to paper. But for canvas?. . . possibly? I just don't know.
The marks def look like where the natural oils or grease from the fingerprints have dulled the gold paint so perhaps there's a method to lift the grease?
I washed some walls in my house down the other day with sugar soap and thought mmm....no,don't do it! Too risky.

Removing fingerprints, by slowmo on Jun 12, 2008 22:47:16 GMT 1, see if bread can bring any of it up? Might not work, but I successfully removed muddy cat paws from a print with it
