Framing it myself cuz i can't trust anyone here, by Gentle Mental on Jul 5, 2008 17:38:02 GMT 1, in a part of the world where pictures get framed with glue and staplers. And i've just received some of the loveliest pieces, ;D
now i so badly want to frame them up.
kindly point me to sites where i can get it done the safest and easiest
i've just checked some site - float mounting don't seem so hard, 2 acid free t-hinges on the top of the piece and a nice backing board, no?
what can the risks be?
i have zero experience.
help!

Framing it myself cuz i can't trust anyone here, by themightyreds on Jul 5, 2008 20:57:48 GMT 1, Go for it i reckon!, maybe try it out with a blank piece of art paper similar to the print you are going to frame and see if the t-hinges take the weight of it ok first though...! I've d-i-y framed a number of my pieces that all seem fine so far. An easy way of getting a float mounted look is to press the print against the glass with the mount & backboard - i know a whole load of people will be spitting their tea out at this idea but a lot of my prints i want to see but also want to be able to chop and change them when i feel like it and without having to pay a framer to do it. I wouldn't do this to any expensive prints i buy now but i've had a pulp fiction happily framed in an off-the-shelf ikea jobbie for the past 3 years and there's noting at all happened to it for being framed this way. If you don't want the print to touch the glass, just get a window mount cut for it! If you get the window mount cut slightly larger than the print itself you can float mount it within the mount aperture - i did this recently and the results are 1st class!!

Framing it myself cuz i can't trust anyone here, by paulypaul on Jul 5, 2008 21:02:28 GMT 1, Hmmm - all good jobs look easy, that's why they get paid the big bucks...
I tried framing/mounting a couple of pieces several years ago - I love my framer, like I love my electrician/mechanic/decorator...
I mean - how difficult can it be to gloss a door...? More difficult than it looks, till you've done a hundred and made the associated mistakes...
