Cheapest Frame EVER!, by goatislander on Mar 13, 2008 5:50:34 GMT 1, Anyone lucky enough to pick up one of the "Big Head" prints by Insect can find a frame that fits perfectly at IKEA. It fits any print that is 50x70cm (i.e. "big head") and it only costs $4.99 here in the US. Anyone in the US knows that it is hard to find frames that fit perfectly for prints made in Europe because of that silly metric system thing. kidding. But anyway, the frame is real wood and comes unpainted/untreated so you can paint it whatever color you like. Hope this is helpful.
just remember, you get what you pay for. since these are so cheap they are made with the most basic materials and I'm sure there is very little conservation value. but if your objective is to get your art on the wall you may want to head on over to your local swedish furniture store.

Cheapest Frame EVER!, by Francis on Mar 13, 2008 9:35:43 GMT 1, Awesome. I'm going to get a few, but would like to know the following first:
Do these have acid-free backing boards? Is the glass UV-protective? Are there spacers so that the print is not touching the glass?

Acid free, spacers and Museum glass - Of course it is! ;D
Think they send a Swedish masseuse round to hang it for you too! ;D

Cheapest Frame EVER!, by Neate Michael on Mar 13, 2008 13:39:04 GMT 1, I would rather put a print up in a cheap frame and get it on the wall than leave it in its tube where I cannot see it. Acid free paper and all that bollocks, how long will it take for unacid free paper to hurt a print? (A few thousand years I should think!)

Reminds me of a sketch from my all time favourite film...
Jules: Hey kids! How you boys doin'? Jules: Hey, keep chillin'. You know who we are? We're associates of your business partner Marsellus Wallace. You do remember your business partner don't you? Let me take a wild guess here. You're Brett, right? Brett: Yeah. Jules: I thought so. You remember your business partner Marsellus Wallace, don't you, Brett? Brett: Yeah, yeah, I remember him. Jules: Good. Looks like me an Vincent caught you boys at breakfast. Sorry about that. Whatcha havin'? Brett: Hamburgers. Jules: Hamburgers! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast. What kind of hamburgers? Brett: Ch-cheeseburgers. Jules: No, no no, where'd you get 'em? McDonalds? Wendy's? Jack in the Box? Where? Brett: Big Kahuna Burger. Jules: Big Kahuna Burger. That's that Hawaiian burger joint. I hear they got some tasty burgers. I ain't never had one myself. How are they? Brett: They're good. Jules: Mind if I try one of yours? This is yours here, right? [Picks up burger and takes a bite] Jules: Mmm-mmmm. That is a tasty burger. Vincent, ever have a Big Kahuna Burger? [Vincent shakes his head] Jules: Wanna bite? They're real tasty. Vincent: Ain't hungry. Jules: Well, if you like burgers give 'em a try sometime. I can't usually get 'em myself because my girlfriend's a vegitarian which pretty much makes me a vegitarian. But I do love the taste of a good burger. Mm-mm-mm. You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France? Brett: No. Jules: Tell 'em, Vincent. Vincent: A Royale with cheese. Jules: A Royale with cheese! You know why they call it that? Brett: Because of the metric system? Jules: Check out the big brain on Brett! You're a smart motherfucker. That's right. The metric system. What's in this? Brett: Sprite. Jules: Sprite, good. You mind if I have some of your tasty beverage to wash this down? Brett: Go right ahead. Jules: Ah, hit the spot.

The backing board is regular ol' cardboard. I doubt the plexiglass it comes with is uv protected. Nope, no spacers. But I'm sure another $5 at your local art supply store could get you what you're looking for, and get your print up and on the wall for $10 or less.
