Bug damage ?, by jungletechno on Mar 31, 2006 16:32:08 GMT 1, Hi all, with the amount of useful and interesting material on the site i was wondering if you could help.
About a month ago i noticed that a small fly type creature had made its way in between the glass and my flying copper print and peacefully past away. On doing so, some evil goo came out of his body and made a white stain about 3mm square in size.
Do you think it is ok to wipe it with a slightly damp cloth or is it possible that the colour will run?
The offending bug died just above the coppers head on the blue, he unfortunatly could not make it to the white bit on the edge.
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Bug damage ?, by gm on Apr 4, 2006 7:32:33 GMT 1, Hi Jungletechno, welcome to the board.
That sounds well nasty
Is it an actual blob of bug on top of the ink, or have its bodily fluids somehow dissolved/eaten through it?
If it's the former I, personally, would go for the powerful magnifying glass/extremely sharp scalpel/very steady hands combo and scrape extremely carefully*.
If it's the latter, I have no idea. Sorry
Hope you can manage to sort something out tho.
*I am in no way advising you to scrape your picture with a scalpel blade. Just saying what I would do in the circumstances. I will not take responsibility for any damage which may be caused by this method, should you choose to try it.

Bug damage ?, by jungletechno on Apr 4, 2006 22:15:00 GMT 1, I have removed the blob of bug, and it hasn't gone through the paper, do you know if a damp ish cloth would damage the colour.
cheers.

Bug damage ?, by mido on Apr 22, 2006 0:06:33 GMT 1, I heard that the Cistern Chapel is a bit of a toilet :-)
how about wetting a cotton bud and gently twizzling it on just the spot. If it works let me know cos I will embark on a new career of art restoration. The cistern chapel may take a while though
