Hanging a Canvas, by rkitek on Aug 31, 2007 7:15:20 GMT 1, While I have plenty of framed art work, I recently purchased my first canvas and I'm at a bit of a loss how best to hang it. It is on stretcher bars but there is no hardware on it.
Do people usually tack on sawtooth picture hangers and use those or is there some other recommended method? Feel a bit silly asking, but I could use some guidance.

Hanging a Canvas, by RetroCanvas on Aug 31, 2007 8:52:17 GMT 1, I always recommend putting up two blocks of wood with no-more-nails and resting the top stretcher bar on them. Using no-more-nails makes it really easy to get both of the blocks level.

Hanging a Canvas, by rkitek on Aug 31, 2007 16:05:41 GMT 1, Thanks, that sounds like a good solution. Maybe I'll give that a try.

Hanging a Canvas, by robo on Aug 31, 2007 17:14:59 GMT 1, Sorry - whats no more nails? (do you mean only 2?)
I've got a similar question. I have a very heavy canvas framed in acetate and i want to hang it on a plasterboard wall... Just wondering how best to do that without bringing the wall down!
I'm thinking of resting the top of the frame on two wide wooden blocks, attached to the wall with several screws into heavy-duty plugs. It will take some care to position the blocks correctly.
But i'm worried about it getting knocked off the blocks... So will probably use a wire attached to picture hook too, not to bear weight but to stop it moving (how to get that all aligned...!!)
Any thoughts much appreciated...
(By the way i've been seriously leached of respect - if anyone can find it in their hearts to plus me i'll make em a cup of tea...)
Thanks,
Rob

Hanging a Canvas, by robo on Aug 31, 2007 17:26:23 GMT 1, Aaah - thanks Thomas - all makes sense.
(I literally thought you meant two blocks; and then no more than 2 nails - so that you can twist the blocks. Doh!!!)
But must admit that the thought of doing that with my heavy canvas scares the shit out of me - maybe i'll use that AND the screws...
