Help! Torn painting woes :(, by arnolfini on Apr 10, 2008 11:11:30 GMT 1, Hi all
I need some suggestions - hope this is the right place for this kind of thing!
I recently bought a beautiful KnGee painting. It arrived yesterday, and I love it to bits. The only problem is that it has a tear about a quarter of the way up the right hand side. See below for a picture that was taken from the back (hence it being on the left):
The tube it arrived in was undamaged, and I handled it incredibly carefully, so it must have happened before it was sent. I've emailed KnGee, who is a lovely guy, and was very apologetic. He and has asked me what I'd like him to do (refund, etc), but to be honest I'm not too sure (which is where I'm hoping you guys will come in).
Returning the painting could be a nightmare, given that he's based in Boston and I'm in London. Also I want to be fair to him, and not exploit his good nature... so what would you guys consider to be fair in the circumstances?
Also does anyone know any way to repair/minimise a tear like this?
Cheers Arn

So he sends out damaged work?
I would arrange a refund on return & request return postage costs.

Help! Torn painting woes :(, by arnolfini on Apr 10, 2008 11:24:44 GMT 1, When you say it like that, it seems like such a blindingly obvious solution!
Here's hoping he has some left... it was from an edition of 15, so fingers crossed!
Also yeah, he sent out damaged work, although in fairness when you view the print from the front it's very hard to see the tear, because that part of the picture is very dark grey. It's only obvious from the back (or if you're really looking for it on the front), so I'm certain that it was an honest oversight on his part.

Help! Torn painting woes :(, by Montubu7 on Apr 10, 2008 12:09:50 GMT 1, He may just have missed it then & not knowingly posted it out damaged. still thats not your fault so if you keep it or return for a swap/refund i would expect him to cover any costs you incurr.

Help! Torn painting woes :(, by andrewd on Apr 10, 2008 17:29:04 GMT 1, Try and locate a local paper restorer. Get a price for restoration. I imagine they will charge peanutsand you'll be amazed at what they can do.. Ask the artist what he is willing to contribute and see if you can deal with it without mailing back the item and waiting for another one.
