"Archival reversible" dry mounting, by Deleted on Aug 24, 2009 10:10:39 GMT 1, Hi - has anyone had any experience with "archival reversible" dry mounting prints? I understand that dry mounting is typically a no go, but have been led to believe by a reputed framer that it is possible to dry mount in a fully reversible way. A process which the framer in question has used previously to mount many Japanese rice paper prints and also numerous Banksy's etc..
Anyone have any thoughts or experience?
Thanks

"Archival reversible" dry mounting, by frontierman on Aug 24, 2009 15:06:20 GMT 1, There is a product which is "archival reversible", it is 5mm archival foamcore board, which comes sprayed with a coating of heat activated adhesive. Your artwork is placed in a vacuum press and heated up to 60 degrees F, and put under pressure for about 3 minutes. If you want to remove it you pop it back in the press at 60 degrees F, with no pressure, for a few minutes, take it out and you can prise the artwork off (very carefully). I would not recommend using this on rice paper, as the paper is too thin and might tear , when pricing off.

"Archival reversible" dry mounting, by Deleted on Aug 24, 2009 18:03:10 GMT 1, Thanks for the response. That sounds like the stuff
Would you have any reservations using this process to frame PoW style screenprints?

"Archival reversible" dry mounting, by hero on Aug 25, 2009 0:59:14 GMT 1, i think we may have the same framer...done some work with some of the YBAs?
i quizzed them about it, they say they just put a bit of heat on the back of the frame and the print becomes free from mount, no damage to frame or print

"Archival reversible" dry mounting, by frontierman on Aug 25, 2009 13:27:00 GMT 1, Sorry guys, in my original post the temperature should have read 60 degrees C not F, otherwise it would be cooked! Andyh, Yeah, it could be used on POW screen printed paper, in fact I have used it on one or two in the past.
