I was stunned to see the amount of work and average quality that Sotheby's is offering in September. it's by FAR the best quality sale of the September offerings. The new online catalog takes some getting used to but is intersting if nothing else.

I paused when I saw this earlier today. This is just perfect to me in so many ways and I suspect it will go for 3X that estimate unless the condition report reads poorly. I'll bet Susan Sheehan is a bidder and with no reserve either.

As some of my friends know, my brother and I may have to shut the doors to our business - We've been at it since '88.
Everything I've worked for for the last 20 years is crumbling due to the economy.
It is more painful than words can describe to relinquish these pieces - But the essentials like mortgage, food, and utilities come first.
Sucks.

You know, I've found the members here to be so supportive during this rough stretch of road. It seems the general public will always tend to be cynical and uncaring, but I've only rec'd 'best of luck' wishes from everyone here. It's quite unusual and very much appreciated.
And while I'm at it, thanks to the board members here who have purchased pieces from me over the last couple of months. Every single one of you has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. A bit of a comfort to know these pieces are going to familiar faces here rather than some random collector on eBay.

Faile Happens Every Day BOX, by Johnston America on Sept 24, 2009 22:01:29 GMT 1, I feel ok - As I said at the start, I always planned to keep this piece, so once I got over the initial heartbreak of committing it to auction, the pain lessened somewhat. I obviously wish I had sold it a year ago when times were better for everyone, but I didn't expect to lose my business then.
I feel like someone got an incredible piece for a great price. I could have used more, and honestly was hoping for more - but I can't complain. I have bought pieces then sold them for more, and I have pieces now that I probably overpaid for and couldn't sell for nearly what I spent on them. I guess in the big picture, I am about breaking even, and have some pieces I hope to be able to hang on to, which is all anyone can hope for.
I was hoping to make enough on this piece so that I could hang on to some other pieces, but it looks like now I'll have to sell more than I planned on. Some more Failes and possibly even my chocolate donuts which really sucks.
Anyway, I really want to thank everyone again for the kind thoughts, and especially those who took the time to pm me to wish me well. Who knows what the future will bring?

That is a definite bargain on the Faile box. Sorry to hear. Hope things get better with your business.

In hindsight yes it would of been best to sell a year ago but tell that to the guy who bought my set of LA Mic's for 12k. Overall I am sure you have Faile pieces that you hold dear to your heart and thats all that matters. It's unfortunate you have to sell a few more wonderful pieces of art considering you already had to deal with letting this beauty go but in the end I am sure you'll realize you made the best decisions.
