Faile at Perry Rubenstein Gallery, by snausages on Jul 1, 2009 17:26:29 GMT 1, And the gallery is a 'player' pretty solid and recognized mid-level gallery in the heart of Chelsea. The gallery space is ok but I really hope they don't make Faile show their work inside the gallery. I do hope they allow them to create another custom space and installation for the show like they did in NYC, 2007.

Faile at Perry Rubenstein Gallery, by Pattycakes on Jul 1, 2009 17:34:19 GMT 1, Perrys is a good gallery, I think they will do a good job with Faile. Interesting choice to take them to FIAC, but might just pay off, the E is so strong at the moment against the dollar that it's bound to be a sell out, just because things will apprear so cheap

Interesting choice for Faile to go with Rubenstein. Almost reminds me of Leigh LeDare going to Greene/Naftali, or Kaws going with Honor Fraser (expect I think that those 2 were better moves overall). This is not to say that I am unimpressed with their choice, on the contrary, I think it was a good move. I like this a little bit more than if they had gone with the obvious choice of Deitch because it adds both a dimension of depth to the gallery with which they signed, and new exposure for the artists to people that would otherwise not be so inclined.
I'm not as quick as snausages to label Rubenstein as a "player" in the New York art scene, but I do see this as a daring move by the gallery to make a name for itself. Right now, they seem to have a solid supporting cast of artists, but I think that if they could sign a couple more artists with a bit more public exhibition history and / or "it" factor then they would present a stronger case for me personally. I do think the ingredients are there for a good gallery to make the jump to a great gallery though.

Faile at Perry Rubenstein Gallery, by snausages on Jul 1, 2009 18:37:19 GMT 1, Yeah, don't actually know how exactly you'd define 'player' anyway but PR is recognized and has a prime piece of gallery space in NY, more saying they are definitely not some little hole in the wall gallery than saying they're a big player. Would like to see a stronger roster and or the roster grow in stature too. But have seen some group shows at Rubenstein where they were able to bring in some very strong contemporary artists.

Remember slow and steady wins the race. I also agree with snausages that I hope they are allowed to have shows outside the gallery's walls.

Great news for Faile and an obvious choice for them to move to a 'solid' contempary art gallery, Congratulations Boys.

For Immediate Release
New York, July 1, 2009, International artist-collaborative FAILE is now represented in the U.S. by Perry Rubenstein Gallery, New York. FAILE is the Brooklyn-based artist duo Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. From a prolific and groundbreaking Street Art collaboration that began in downtown New York in 1999, FAILE has expanded their practice in the studio to the walls of galleries and museums worldwide.
In the studio, FAILE recreates the in situ appearance of plastered, torn and weathered posters from the street on to canvas, and puzzle-like, multi-part wooden boxes, pallets and crates. Continually recycling while expanding the vocabulary of their most recognizable works FAILE creates original imagery that takes the visual vocabulary of popular culture, consumerist vernacular and the fantastical, remixing them into raw yet captivating narratives. Through this process FAILE explores notions of duality: love versus hate, peace versus war, violence versus beauty, revealing a frenetic tapestry that weaves together disparate elements of the urban landscape.
FAILE has traveled internationally for the last 10 years from Palestine to Berlin, London to Shanghai, contributing its striking iconography and dexterous style to city walls, buildings and bridges all around the world.
Their expansive and tenacious practice has earned them the attention of the Tate Modern through inclusion in the museum's Street Art exhibition in summer 2008; in addition to exhibitions at Spank the Monkey, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts, Newcastle-Gateshead, UK and The Burning House (Faile, Swoon & Dave Ellis) - Museum Hetdomein, Sittard, Netherlands 2007. FAILE's work was recently on view in Plastic Culture: Legacies of Pop 1986, 2008, Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Lancanshire, UK, 2009, which is due to travel to other future venues.
Perry Rubenstein Gallery will present select new works by FAILE at FIAC 2009 in Paris, France (October 22-25). The gallery will mount a major solo show of new work in the coming year.

No mention of the cracking Laz show at the school last year in Sauf London?

I liked that box - it was a good price too. I was surprised it didn't get snapped up sooner. They're good guys over at UA.

The Faile Box is now sold i believe. I mentioned that Faile box at Urban on here 1 or 2 weeks ago, it was a great deal, I hope someone got it before they jacked the price up.
But I'm skeptical of people chasing Faile and these galleries raising prices. I can't say but I wouldn't expect Faile's retail prices to actually go up in price just because of this. Laz had already pushed the retail prices up pretty high imo. I think this will more help their stature and keep pieces moving than their prices skyrocketing again.

That's for the nice comments.
The Faile box sold a few days ago, before this announcement. It was not sold for a 'jacked up' price, in fact it sold for way below the asking price.
We changed all prices to POA today, as most of the work belongs to clients and we didn't want anything to sell without first checking with those consignors, just in case they no loner wanted to sell, or wanted to increase their prices.
