Banksy Street Piece Advice, by topper007 on Nov 12, 2009 16:29:50 GMT 1, Sorry but the box belongs to the bankrupt shop owner/his company or firm if you only "rescued it" for him. Therefore it became part of the bankrupt estate if he/the company has gone bust.
His trustee in bankruptcy/liquidator might therefore be very interested. Hopefully they won't ask the boys in blue to investigate its interim disappearance.

Banksy Street Piece Advice, by Curley on Nov 12, 2009 18:22:39 GMT 1, LOL<Vermin authentication means nothing they are IMO just a bunch of chancers trying to legitimise the street pieces they have themselves have removed or bought from people who have removed them by creating an authentication process that is not supported by the artist nor by his representatives.
Trying to move it on here or get advice on how best to sell is just likely to get you a whole load of abuse as most of us prefer our street art left on the street where we all can enjoy it.

Banksy Street Piece Advice, by Guest on Nov 12, 2009 20:34:43 GMT 1, I have worked in the SE1 area for the last 17 years and some time back I rescued the Help Me Rat for a newspaper shop owner who went bust. The shop was round the back of Waterloo in Lower Marsh just where Leake Street Cans Festival was held. It's a huge item on a newspaper drop off box and I have nowhere to store it, I can't sell it as obviously it's a street piece and I can't get provenance and therefore can't put in an auction, I also don't think eBay is the right place as there's too many fakes there. I did have someone look at it from one of big auction houses and was told with provenance that it would be worth in excess of 100k. What should I do with it? I'd like it to go to someone who can display it, as at the moment it's just sitting gathering dust. bloobuoy2(at)yahoo.co.uk
just quoting as im sure this will be deleted.

Banksy Street Piece Advice, by manty on Nov 12, 2009 21:58:58 GMT 1, I dont know what i would do with it if it suddenly appeared on my front lawn one morning, its obviously worth money to someone that just wants it for the sake of having a bit of Banksy history.
Possibly i'd put it in my garden and store my wellies and boots in it :-)
It is odd all the authenticity business, everyone knows this is the real thing, yet it has no value? I know the reasons people like street stuff to be kept there, and that I would guess the taggers, art fags, graffers would probably rather their stuff be defaced and painted over rather than taken.
But that doesnt stop me lusting over a few bits like this one, i'd swap a signed print for it. I know it would make me a bad person though :-)

Banksy Street Piece Advice, by Guest on Nov 12, 2009 22:19:36 GMT 1, look, thats what happens, art gets put up on the street for all to enjoy, and then someone tags it, it gets buffed...life goes on. its not put there free of charge for you to steal and make money out of. its very simple, get used to it.

If that is a Banksy, then you should send an invoice to him c/o Pest Control for whatever costs it takes to remove, eradicate, fix, and or dispose of said item and possibly tack on some extra for the advertising / exhibition space he tried to nick for free.

Steal?! who stole? try rereading prevous, you'll learn something, I think anyone else would have done the same if their local newsagent was going down the pan, and they knew that it was to be scraped, they'd save it!
you did him a favour, right? "save it" how apt ;D

Yup, and on the flip side, my wall isn't put there for you to vandalize, use and promote/advertise yourself free of charge.
So on one side we have the total a-holes like Bank Robber who travel the world to take walls and try to profit off of Banksy. (I'm sure he pays people to cut out their wall usually, but still an opportunistic a-hole)
And on the other side you have people acting as if an unlawful tag etc. is some sacred almost religious "work of art" that should never be disturbed. And think that anyone who takes a trash can with a stencil is an evil horrible person.
Oy Vey
