50k this real?, by Zippy on Nov 25, 2009 0:29:46 GMT 1, Whatever it is - real or not - I can not comment. But what I can comment on is why would someone want to pay 50k for a piece that was meant to be left on the street, has been stolen and comes with no provenance? Its a 50k piece of concrete. And it will never be anything more.

50k this real?, by spirit on Nov 25, 2009 11:04:15 GMT 1, Surely its value is determined by whether it is accepted as genuine or not?
If it is genuine (and if it's not then it is the best copy I have ever seen) - then it will be worth a lot more than the concrete it is made from. Exactly how much I have no idea - but as street pieces go, its a good one.
Banksy is a street artist therefore I think it would be reasonable for some people to think that his street pieces (as opposed to made for sale pieces) are the most "real" examples of the artists work. Pest Control don't authenticate street pieces so if you are of a mind that street pieces are what you want, then you're a bit stuck when it comes to authentication and you have to make a judgement call based on research, knowledge and experience.
The argument that it has no value because"it was meant to be left on the street/stolen" while being an honourable position to take, seems a little naive to me. The art left on the street by the world's most famous street artist is always going to have some value beyond the materials used to create it.
Afroken - I am interested why you came to the conclusion it is copy - even if an "almost impossibly good" one. Would you mind elaborating?

interesting work all the same....there are plenty of folks out there who'd purchase it given the chance... but at 50k in the current climate.. I'd think that a far off possibility for most if not all ebayers... simply the wrong (ironic) marketplace..

because there is no prov.

Someone who is willing to spend 50k is going to be concerned they have rock tight prov to protect their investment.
p.s. the flashy thing is cool.
