Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by robotbad on Oct 9, 2009 10:33:57 GMT 1, thks mb - I wouldn't have been in the market for purchasing - Adam has gone so far out of the street art purchasing bracket it's scary (even back in 06, his prices were huge for us mere mortals on average pay packets)...just interested to know about those small canvases purely as I thought they maybe 'relatively' cheap (altho can't say I actually like them!)

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by hlarmy on Oct 9, 2009 11:00:54 GMT 1, Does anyone else find it surprising that there are already people selling signed books, and posters, on eBay; 'valued clients' (or guests) of Elms Lesters trying to flip these within 24 hours of the buyers preview

Having said what I said in my previous post, I've now had a change of heart - you're right. Out of a hundred people, there's always going to be at least one looking to make a quick buck (no not really surprising) and I'd imagine most valued clients would have been to Elms prior to last night.
It is sad though as Adam spends all evening chatting to everyone and signing their books, only for someone to eBay it as soon as they get in that night. Fingers crossed they won't sell as it kind of goes against what he stands for...

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by Macdeee on Oct 9, 2009 12:05:36 GMT 1, It is kinda sad, but its not suprising... Adam was downstairs for most of the evening with a line of people getting things signed. He is a very nice guy and was happy to sign lots of stuff. I wouldnt have been quite so patient.... But then he probably made a few hundred grand last night so im sure he woke with a smile on his face today.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by svenman on Oct 9, 2009 13:11:40 GMT 1, adam was very obliging to people last night even though there were people getting 6 posters or so signed at a time. it is a shame that people have exploited his generosity by sticking this stuff on ebay before the permanent marker ink is dry.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by robotbad on Oct 9, 2009 13:13:16 GMT 1, what were the range of prices for this show? Thks Expensive! and mostly sold from what I saw. useful - thks love the larger cardboard pieces tend to agree with stopki re: the pieces above - not great at all and reminiscent of another smaller artist (who's name I can't remember at this moment) and got slaughtered for doing the same
retracting these statements regarding the smaller canvases - just seen them 'in the flesh' and they're wonderful - absolutely stella show - the installation shows real progression and some amazing talent - just awe inspiring

Both of you numptys learn a valuable lesson, never judge a book by its cover. That so called cunt was me and it was 6 posters. I was the only person with that many and Adam was good enough to not only sign them but also 3 books I had purchased. 2 posters were for me (1 of each) the others were for my neighbour who is a Neate collector and a forum member from America who contacted me to try and help him.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by expresso1 on Oct 9, 2009 14:16:22 GMT 1, Went to the show last night. It was stunning โ photos donโt do the pictures justice. Adam was very generous in his time chatting about the work and patiently signing peopleโs books/posters for hours. The development from the pieces downstairs (Three Stages, Rioters and car accident one were my favourites) to the use of Perspex upstairs was a real surprise. It took a while to get to grips with the use of new โcoldโ plastic and its acid colour tones in contrast to Adamโs trademark cardboard works using recognisable, recycled items, paints etc as a 'organic' backdrop to recreating everyday moments in time/emotions, which seem to come alive on the canvas. However, after I a while, I started to appreciate the perspex pieces, creative invention and technical skills resulting in a new visual perspective. The work to me remains distinctly Adamโs own - influenced no doubt by other artists/genres - but not a copy of. He has made so much progress in such a short time and is not afraid to experiment. My favourites were the grey and red portraits and the middle one of the three 4D boxes and some of the canvases. Back today for a proper look at the detailing I missed last night and to understand more about dimensions and whether this is the end of the cardboard period (which would be shame, I think, to lose completely).

what would you call the people selling articles from last night on the bay already?
