Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by welikestatic on Oct 20, 2009 13:18:28 GMT 1, absolutely incredible show - the work is amazing and has to be seen up close and in all 4 dimensions to really appreciate how Adam has sculpted the canvas and created the pieces.
top marks sacked for helping those further afield to get in on the action too!

I was a bit confused by that email from Elms "Thursday 20th Oct"? Its the Thurs 22nd Oct today.
Is this tonight, or was it last Tuesday?

It's tonight, on the 22nd at 7 pm. Elms has the correct date and time on their web site. Enjoy.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by Deleted on Oct 28, 2009 17:50:20 GMT 1, just received my poster (red one), unfortunatly slightly damaged, but not a real problem.. will get it framed, but thinking to get rid of the white border.. This one isnt signed, so it's a bit useless, it also might cut down framingcosts...

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by Ottomatik on Oct 30, 2009 19:20:12 GMT 1, My Madonna show poster just arrived. It looks like the red signed poster, photo above in earlier post. ( as far as folds and creases) I see others are having the same issue. Wanted to know if anyone contacted Laz to see if the are willing to replace. I just sent an email to them.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by Zippy on Oct 30, 2009 22:51:50 GMT 1, I went in at lunchtime today to see the show for the first time. I thought best to leave it a week or two hoping the crowds would die down a little. I went in at lunchtime and Skanky was there and a famous artist (not together I must add ;D). Once they had all left I had the pleasure of Paul personally showing me around the show for an hour explaining each piece to me. I have not bought from EL before and I am not a city boy in a flash suit but Paul took the time to chat through each piece and we discussed everything about the pieces. What a pleasure for someone to spend the time with an Art fan. Thanks Paul (and Fiona). Not sure of you read this forum but if you do, it was really appreciated.

It's this type of practice that you don't forget in a hurry. Only ever bought books from Elms but Fiona has always been great to deal with.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by skanky on Nov 9, 2009 20:04:04 GMT 1, Just had an email from Elms looks like Paul will be doing more of his guided tours on the next two Thursdays and Saturdays before the exhibition closes in a couple of weeks. The tour gives a great insight into the individual pieces and is well worth the trip down there if you are into Adams work.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by RYCA on Nov 15, 2009 10:07:47 GMT 1, Have to agree, this was by a country mile the best solo show i have been too. 3d forms and twisted metal flow in and out like they are painted lines, the real clothing and other props look surreal but not out of place. it was jaw dropping, i almost missed the grill in the wall, but a member of staff pointed out before i left... mr Neate's evolving style fills me with such hope and he truely is in a class of his own. i left with a feeling that in say twenty years the only way your ever going to see such a collection of work is in a museum somewhere.
I had one moment of soul destroying discovery... this piece (self portrait)
i had been working on a very similar idea with digital photo frames! Adam has executed perfectly and works so much better in the context of what he does. i did however feel cuffed that i had almost the same idea as Mr Neate. GO AND SEE THIS SHOW ! YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DON'T!

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by remirough on Nov 15, 2009 12:07:21 GMT 1, beautiful show, the 3D works are pretty mind blowing, but some of the smaller paintings left me a bit cold... My favourite pieces were actually the perspex layer pieces, which I thought were fantastic.

All i have to say is wow to walk throught the door and be hit by the pianist was amazing, such a great body of work but my prsonal favrites were the larger pieces and the 2 portraits.

Adam Neate - A New Understanding - 9th Oct, by Deleted on Nov 16, 2009 16:40:09 GMT 1, this saturday I attended the tour.. Paul was a perfect host and took our group for a 75 minute tour. It was great to get the timeline in this work, it really adds something to understand the choices of Neate. The man is still studying his own skills, his search for the combination of 2d/3d/4d and the way to paint a piece moving is great to see.
For me the best pieces were the perspex layered ones, at first sight really simple, but an image that keeps growing on you. The two portraits (especially the grey ones) were also great.
Not sure about the perspex, I see those pieces (e.g. reclining nude (not sure about that name) and madonna as a phase he had to go through to reach his latest pieces (the three big canvasses you can see in the background of the pictures RYCA posted..).
the only bad thing is I can't wait to see the next show now..
Afterwards I had a great talk with Paul about Adam and his career. I asked Paul if Adam would do an internation show on short term, Paul answered with an interesting point of view: Adam won't do this in the near future because when he is asked for a show he is asked to make NEW works in the same style as his latest show. That's just not the way Adam is working (at the moment), he is still improving/exploring his style, he doesnt want to repeat anything he has done before.. Paul gives him the time and space to do this.
Oh, when you're in London, don't forget to see the Popart exhibition in the Tate too! That was great! esp. the Haring-room and the pieces by Warhol, a must see for everyone, I think!
