New Hirst self portrait, by thegreatarchitect on Jul 12, 2009 12:52:14 GMT 1, I've never been a great fan of Hirst's work, and this piece is no exception but i do now question Hirst's credibility as an artist, X rays are almost obsolete and not available by request. Reminds me very much of the Mark Quinn BLOOD HEAD

New Hirst self portrait, by dudebro17 on Jul 12, 2009 18:33:15 GMT 1, you know, i hate how there is so much of his work out there. But as a whole, his body of work is pretty coherant with a vision. It is extremely well executed, even if not by his own hand. Even if I could afford any of it, I wouldnt want it in my home, but I can appreciate how great a thinker he is.

I suppose I missed the lesson that described "the nasal passages leading to the urethra" while I was in med school. If that were anatomically correct, it would give new meaning to the idea of pissing away cocaine.

I loved that blood head - went to see it, found it really moving. Very clever piece - probably beyond me, but saw it as statement about temporary nature of art versus fragility of human body. Amazing object, cracked and covered in frost. Cheers c

Referring directly to the history of ready made sculpture, Hirst had his whole body X-rayed in Mexico, having tracked down a facility that would undertake the dangerous procedure without evidence of medical need. Creating a portrait from the inside out, the artist makes visible that which, in life at least, is unknown and inaccessible. Consistent with much of Hirstโs work, the illuminated X-rays admit to our mortality and the science of our existence, both during and after life.

Yes i know, but did you know that our local binmen and strret cleaners are now to be refered to as Street Doctors and that our bins and their brooms whilst deciesively occupying three dimensional volumes in space do also sucessfully remove all analogies that refer to any earthbound human form.
Why is an X ray now elevated to a direct history of ready made sculpture ?
How many people have attended hospitals with injuries to their bodies and unwittingly create a portrait that eludes to that part of them that is inaccessible?
