I bought the "original" as there was talk of the museum show becoming a book and thought it might be a nice little momento if the story of the book disappearing and reappearing with pages missing is true and show up in the book.

I cant see how this has any significance. Its not like you would need it as prov for future sales of work in that show.

Lets forget about the money for a moment. I think that It's interesting because banksy is leaving behind an ever expanding legacy. with his art and his attitude. People call it hype and maybe it is? but whatever you want to call it people who take part in using his cultural presents in their own intuitive way are in some way a product of his creation and aid in the founding of his legacy. Banksys bad boy attitude has obviously made him the success he is today. The Fishfinger Diary and the other available backstreet banksy products are direct bi-product of his methodology. I find it satisfying to see people directly involving themselves in this movement rather than looking at a bit of random graf and asking themselves "is that a banksy"? they have created a second layer of Banksy and made their own interpretations.

Anyway Gallery 5 has now bought a 'fishfinger diary' and can say with no hesitation that the creator of this has by all means created a very clear unintentional statement on Street Art of today. It is crudely made but an interesting read (we have been passing it around the office and having a good discussion as you can probably guess). I'm not saying it will go down in history as a definitive record. But it just might be recognized in time for its unique qualities like we have not seen before in the age of Banksy and his fellow street artists. You don't look at it and go "Oh my god what a statement", like the 'Kissing Coppers' will make you do. But i believe this is a second layer to the banksy phenomenon. Above the poster rip offs and cheaply made t-shirts. At least this one has given us some variation and is an original angle. I hope more oddities like this will grace us in the future, and I would encourage others to go out and do the same.

Are you confusing 'method' with 'methodology' here? If not, I can't help but wonder what you think his methodology is?

I agree, must have been a great experience for the staff there. Not a lot of actual Banksy content on this diary thing though.
