And a crown. Against a background of a union flag. It all seems a bit BNP/Daily Mail to me but maybe I am misunderstanding it.

liz hurley? lol... with a union jack bandana.... hmmmm...it's a multi cultural reference i guess..just heavy handed for my taste (and in this case, I certainly need obvious sometimes)

Just because something is put on the street doesnโt make it art and doesnt make it good. I agree with pezlow at first glance the piece does seem a bit BNP but the artist's rationale does put it properly into context none the list itโs incredibly clichรฉ with well worn, heavily drawn upon themes. What next, Marilyn Monroe in a burka?

Yes I think they are meant to be the queens eyes. and yes she is wearing a jilbab. I think it questions immigration and the islamification of british society. I think it certainly brings up a sensitive issue but I don't think that to bring up these issues is ignorant/racist. In fact I think the inability to talk about these things without being labelled a racist makes rational discussion very difficult.

If we want to discuss the UK's involvement in Iraq do we dress the Queen up as a commando and give her a gun?? Actually that would make a great print ;D

No, I don't read the daily mail. You may remember that not so long ago Dr Rowan Williams made a remark that he thought it would be "inevitable" that aspects of Sharia Law would need to be incorporated into British law in order to make the law work for the many muslims that live in Britain but have very different cultural/legal values. That is what I meant by the "islamification of british society. It's the Queen dressed as a Muslim. How can it not be about the islamification of Britiain?

He certainly said he was misunderstood, but I don't believe he actually ever retracted his statement, merely expanded upon it. Gordon Brown has also stated on numerous occasions that he wants London to become the global centre for Sharia Banking.

Yeah, I think its an interesting subject to be done by an artist, and I don't see it being anything to do with Racism its more about British multi cultural society, being open to other peoples religions and beliefs ;D a good thing!

Yes I know what you mean. But I think K-Guy has raised the issue using the "language" of street art. By that I mean a lot of street art generates it's message by putting two contrasting images together.

K-Guy ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข New Print Release โข For Sale, by bobbydazzle on Apr 4, 2008 14:54:41 GMT 1, just an interesting fact, when they first came to TLSG at the Beejoir exhibition, Kguy was talking with some one from the gallery showing him the piece, I came over and had a look. He told them that the writing in Arabic said Peace love and unity and thats what the piece was about, my girlfriend who studied Arabic translated it to God save the queen, K guy said he had it translated on a website and they must have got it wrong, sounds a bit far fetched especially as it translated it to god save the queen which fits with the image.
Anyway I have no problem people expressing themselves and tackling controversial issues, but to what I can only assume was a blatant lie, brings in to question the meaning of the piece even more. If the goal and motivation was peace and social harmony as K-Guy explained then I believe this is at least a very naive and cock handed way of getting that message across or at worse a piece of art that adds to the constant scaremongering and fear of the Muslim community. (I don't know if the writing has now been changed)
I agree totally with Pezlow that the islamification of Britain is a widely spread myth, unless of course you read and believe the scaremongering lies of the Right wing press and political party's.
This piece is just too heavy handed and plays into the fear driven society that we live in, good art should challenge these lies, this for me is just another chink in the amour of the dark knights which demonise the Muslim community.
The biggest problem is Islamaphobia not Islamification
Racism is a tool used to divide and rule, in order to enslave black people, people had to invent the myth that Black people were sub human, so we could excuse ourselfs for treating them in such way, the same imply's to today. The rise of islamaphobia demonising a community by provoking fear serves the warlords in there quest to bomb and rob the resources of the middle east.
Might I add, remember the anti-jewish art of Germany pre Nazi era, the jew seen with evil eyes and big hook nose, taking over germany etc etc,

It certainly has a xenophobic feel to me tho' where we tend to highlight and focus on differences rather than similarities. This image appears to do the former rather than latter, IMO.
