New Josh Keyes, by alsbabar on Jul 16, 2008 9:13:00 GMT 1, we live in a society where information is fed to us in a nano second - the world is evovling technology is moving forwards all the time - to hit a site which has issues like LAG isnt anything to do with "trying out a new system", because this isnt a new system of drip feeding - POW have done it before, Faile have done it before and so have a few others - but what they have done and this is the big difference, they have inveseted in their online solution - because what LAG's problems are, are simply lazy and trying to cut corners - i dont particularly like Josh Keyes, but a few other artists on there I do - but my whole experience of LAG makes want to look elsewhere to buy their art - and if i can I will - so in essence, this has a much more negative impact on LAG's longterm customer retention - I also bet there are quite a few pissed of Keyes fans right now

New Josh Keyes, by Bram on Jul 16, 2008 10:03:45 GMT 1, thats bollocks bram - LAG is probably one of the most irritating and worst online websites out there, irrespective to what artist, it has always had problems - to survive in this highly competitive and demanding market, not only do you need to keep up with the rest of the game, you need to be ahead of it - and sorting out your server issues IS one of the cheapest and simplest things to do - what LAG arent doing is just lazy - its called LAG for a reason!!
That's also bollocks alsbabar, LAG was set up with the main focus on originals. POW, BRP etc have all gone through the learning curve before ironing out their problems. Not all galleries are making fortunes to enable them to re-invest.

New Josh Keyes, by Bram on Jul 16, 2008 10:06:49 GMT 1, Not sure why the BRP website has been lumped in with other failed websites as it seems to work fine for me. Sure on a Nick Walker release or a Dface release it gets a bit slow but you have to remember that BRP tell everyone in advance the time of release for most of these prints so it is bound to slow down. The POW website works really well. Perhaps too well so it is now available almost exclusively for the people who have software. Honestly those people who don't think that this software exists are living in dreamland. Lucky for me most of the artists I tend to like don't get sold out in a nano second, apart from Banksy and Faile of course and I've pretty much resigned myself to not getting any more of their prints on the primary market (don't seem to have any luck with Fairq either). As for the LAG I think we have to remember that the explosion of interest in Josh Keyes has probably taken everyone by surprise. Despite this LAG are doing their best to try out systems to limit their customers problems with the website - drip feeding this release is a good example of that. The world doesn't end if you don't get the latest hot piece of paper. After all if you are that desperate for it you can probably buy it off ebay for only a small mark up or do a swap for something else in your collection.
Well put Pez

You speak as if this rush on the LAG site is a regular thing. There was a rush on the last Keyes release but thats it; I take it that release is the "always" you're referring to. The first Keyes print LAG released was up for ample time with no problems. You cant expect an art gallery that isnt primarily focused on prints (great point Bram) to have their website worked out perfectly the 2nd time a highly desired print is released. They tried to avoid problems by staggering the release, so they're trying.

I also said "I dont particularly like Josh Keyes", so I dont really give a fuck for the keyes prints, my comments are about their site in general and from MY experience, their site has always performed badly. By staggering releases also means that a lot of people will be on their site F5ing all the time, sucking up bandwidth in the hope of getting to add a Keyes print to basket - while in the meantime anyone else who is interested in other artists have to endure a worst level of service then before!!

New Josh Keyes, by gbh on Jul 16, 2008 11:41:46 GMT 1, I'm not particularly bagging out LAG, many sites that try to sell product online have similar issues.
In my view, the level of investment in your online operations depends on your level of customer service focus and general approach to business. If you are going to open your doors online, you had better be able to provide just as good of a service as as if your customers were walking in to your shop. If not, your business will suffer and your minimal focus on this side of the business will be heavily exposed.
I went to Tesco the other day, they sent me an email weeks ago saying that they have some great choccy biscuits coming into the store on a certain day at a certain time. Great! I love choccy bikkies! I patiently waited.. The day came around .. I drove down to the store, traffic was really bad, it took me ages to get even close to the store, I went to turn into the car park and then all of a sudden, the whole Tesco supermarket dissapeared! What the fuck? I drove around the block and finally got back to the entrance and then the store had a massive sign out the front saying they were closed? what the fuck? They were supposed to be open. This happened over and over again, about 100 times, the store was supposed to be open. anyway, I finally got in the driveway. the store was open. I could hardly move though. bang. everyone got chucked out of the store. they closed it again. what the fuck? this happened about 10 more times. so anyway, this goes on for a while. Long story short....i finally get through the doors, I run down the aisle to the choccy biscuit section and they are in sight! wow! bang, store closed, we all get chucked out. happens again about 10 times.. long story short...i get back to the aisle and this time get the biscuits in my hand, I go to chuck them in my cart, STORE CLOSED, all chucked out. long story short..I get them in my hand again, NO WAY, I finally get them in my shopping trolley, awesome, I can almost taste them. STORE CLOSED This time, I turn around and where there was once a Tesco, there is just a massive gaping hole in the earth, the store is gone? what the fuck? It appears out of nowhere, I run for the bikkies, I get them, I put them in my cart, I run to the checkout, I give the checkout chick my credit card , she starts to move quite slowly, bang...she, my bikkies and the store all dissapear into thin air. oh yeah, I'll be shopping here every day for the rest of my life now, this really how I like to do things.
I turn around again, there is a massive sign in front of me that says "STORE CLOSED" what the fuck? anyway, this happens 100 more times. finally, all seems to be going smooth, I run to the aisle, I go to the right section, my dreams are coming true..I peek onto the choccy biscuit shelf FUCK SOLD OUT
Some companies believe this type of shopping experience is acceptable for their customers, others don't. The ones that don't end up doing something about it, investing in infrastructure, etc.
yes, it is a hot and limited run product but customers still should have an enjoyable experience even if they do not get the product they wish. many sites out there are simply happy to let their customers eat shit and die. the sooner businesses that try to trade online actually realise the true potential value in the electronic economy and invest accordingly, the more successful they will be.

New Josh Keyes, by ricosg11 on Jul 16, 2008 14:52:59 GMT 1, You try running an ACTUAL GALLERY and supporting and nuturing as many artists as LAG does. Then see where your print release falls in line with priorities. Get a grip, its a print. At least there werent fist fights and arguements like erm, cough, one of your heros did. You sound like a bunch of children.

Sorry but wtf are you ranting about. To alleviate the main issues = a simple phone call to their isp for additional bandwidth...
