New Josh Keyes, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 15, 2008 22:59:57 GMT 1, Limited Addiction - If you're reading this, please sort your systems out and invest some of your profits in proper server and database, to improve the customer experience involved in trying to get a popular print on release. The same applies to Black Rat Press, Shep and many others! I won't waste my time even trying to get a Walker print I happen to like, just as I didn't bother trying to get this Keyes print today. Far too stressful imo!
EDIT - LAG, please accept my apology for my original wording, it was out of order. And btw, well done for a great looking site and a really impressive rosta of artists too.

The average price of a print is less than $200.00, not much profit in that when you see the quality of work. I would prefer them to be that price and go through all the motions to keep then low.

New Josh Keyes, by bonesy on Jul 16, 2008 0:08:39 GMT 1, From Dave @ LAG....
we keep searching for a way to handle this flood of traffic, but we haven't come across a decent solution yet. for example, our site statistics showed us that we had about 700,000 hits over a 24 hour period during our last release (Watcher #3). that requires a very substantial amount of RAM, and the replacement of a few F5 keys.
i can't speak to the traffic that other artist's sites get during a release (i.e. Obey)... but there's a reason why these site crashes are par for the course for many artists.
if anyone has a technical (and feasible) suggestion for improving this in the future, we are happy to hear about it via pm or email. otherwise, we all appreciate your patience and understanding and wish you the best of luck.
thanks.

way off base buddy. How did you leave pow off your list. You used to have to fight for popular prints, now the ones who get them are using ticket scalping software. You think all these galleries are making a fortune? No chance. At the very best, a gallery is taking 55-60% of each sale. Top artists get about 50/50. Then the gallery usually pays for artists supplies, advertising the event, rent, payroll, utilties, courting artists, show openings, the list goes on. Its not as dreamy, easy and lucrative as you all seem to think. Give them a break, if you had ever dealt or spoken with either Dave or Mike personally you wouldnt have ran your mouth.

Ah, another personal attack from Mr Paul . I'll humour you with a response, even though your question seemed rhetorical..
I've not managed to but from LAG yet, as on the only ocassion I tried I wasted a fair amont of time and failed. I've picked up a couple from BRP, but only had aggro' trying on the odd ocassion when it was something more popular.
Do you want a discussion on this, or just to insult me again? If the former is the case, perhaps you'll answer my question.... Would you not like to see these galleries get their online purchase systems sorted, rather than you trying to buy something for hours which was sold out already?

I respect your opinion Rico, you're wrong about POW though. There is very little software that would be of benefit. Members on here have even admitted having orders cancelled and being banned in the past for getting more than one basket open for choosing print numbers. I have managed to buy and at other times failed with POW with no software other than IE. NOW they do have their systems sorted. I remember a BRP person coming on here and explaining away their system failure as having to deal with a few thousand people online, whereas POW had over half a million to deal with on the Santa's Ghetto site for the S+S release. Seemed a bit weak to me. I know people who build and maintain similar systems and am very reliably informed that the cost is not necessarily as high as many of us may guess. I was IN NO WAY calling into question anyone's personal integrity and I'm sure they are nice people at BRP. They have certainly never disappointed me when I've bought from them, with a quick service and the best tubes and fittings I've ever seen.

New Josh Keyes, by alsbabar on Jul 16, 2008 8:53:48 GMT 1, thats bollocks bram - LAG is probably one of the most irritating and worst online websites out there, irrespective to what artist, it has always had problems - to survive in this highly competitive and demanding market, not only do you need to keep up with the rest of the game, you need to be ahead of it - and sorting out your server issues IS one of the cheapest and simplest things to do - what LAG arent doing is just lazy - its called LAG for a reason!!

New Josh Keyes, by pezlow on Jul 16, 2008 9:06:19 GMT 1, Not sure why the BRP website has been lumped in with other failed websites as it seems to work fine for me. Sure on a Nick Walker release or a Dface release it gets a bit slow but you have to remember that BRP tell everyone in advance the time of release for most of these prints so it is bound to slow down.
The POW website works really well. Perhaps too well so it is now available almost exclusively for the people who have software. Honestly those people who don't think that this software exists are living in dreamland.
Lucky for me most of the artists I tend to like don't get sold out in a nano second, apart from Banksy and Faile of course and I've pretty much resigned myself to not getting any more of their prints on the primary market (don't seem to have any luck with Fairq either).
As for the LAG I think we have to remember that the explosion of interest in Josh Keyes has probably taken everyone by surprise. Despite this LAG are doing their best to try out systems to limit their customers problems with the website - drip feeding this release is a good example of that.
The world doesn't end if you don't get the latest hot piece of paper. After all if you are that desperate for it you can probably buy it off ebay for only a small mark up or do a swap for something else in your collection.
