the neate auction, by verbalkint on Dec 12, 2007 2:53:50 GMT 1, its called suicide bomber I have a 3D neate already and am waiting on a 2D to go with it, I just paid a years rent upfront on a new pad in mayfair so i doubt i will be bidding on this one, but im pretty certain that if it does well they will start to appear more often anyway. I would rather buy one from elms and get a massive parla too than spend ยฃ50k on the secondary market, but think in a years time his originals will be amazingly expensive

Aren't the big Parla canvases around 25-30k and up now? Not trying to undermine what you are saying as I think its a better plan to buy from Elms to cultivate that relationship over bidding against people at auction, but I thought the Parlas were getting up with the Neates in price too.

the neate auction, by Avian Security on Dec 13, 2007 2:31:26 GMT 1, There's quite a common ruse in art markets, based on the fact that the prices fetched at auctions are what sets the price on the ground. A group of City boys buys up a few original pieces by an up-and-coming artist, say for ยฃ3k a pop. A piece comes up for auction, maybe one of the group puts it up. The rest of the group bid it up way past its estimate... say to ยฃ30k. Hey presto! The value of their originals has just gone up 10 fold. Not saying that's what happened here, but I hear from people involved in the market that it's common practice. The whole market is filthy corrupt.

I thought Frankie collected Neates. I'm surprised he sold an original. Can you post a pic?

This is likely to be a street piece (still original and still good) from Frankies website www.campbarbossa.com - he's got a few on there

the neate auction, by funster on Dec 13, 2007 15:51:13 GMT 1, So... is there actually a difference between an "original Neate" and an original "street art piece" by Neate?
Yes and no. A street piece is done by Neate and some of them are really good and some of them aren't, they were mainly left 'on the street' for people to pick up and keep. Adam did them while developing his work, like other artists have drawing books. An original is from a gallery (usually Elms Lesters for the most recent ones) and have full provinance and are 'finished' articles etc. As a slight warning some of the street pieces would be really easy to copy. ;D Manchester Mike will conclude this by pointing out my mistakes

8.5/10
Marked you down slightly for spelling provenance wrong and not pointing out that an archive of every street piece ever left can be found on www.adamneate.co.uk/
