the neate auction, by frank11 on Dec 13, 2007 15:57:51 GMT 1, Nothing, but I think someone's been trigger happy with the price on one of them
Agreed, however surely if one person accidently put in such a large bid. It would then need another bidder perhaps by the name of SHILL to get the initial bid up to that sort of level

Ummm, 2 people with careless fingers? Does definately seem 'wrong'

the neate auction, by RBK on Dec 13, 2007 16:33:39 GMT 1, I didn't realise he'd put it back up there as it had been taken down for a while
I think it comes and goes based on how Adam is feeling. Think people unfortunately use it as a 'provenance-prover' for street pieces - that weren't ever meant to be bought and sold.

the neate auction, by verbalkint on Dec 13, 2007 21:46:52 GMT 1, i think you better had! maybe it will be a flash in the pan, but i didnt even think it was a particularly strong piece (it was still ace though) It is the most valuable thing i own, so i thought i had better insure it, i have never insured art before
Actually, has anyone else here insured their collections? I know people who live in ยฃ100k houses with ยฃ200k worth of prints under the bed!! It seems silly to insure the house and not the prints

the neate auction, by motor on Dec 13, 2007 22:02:04 GMT 1, Great result for A on yesterday Sotheby's. Good for him and people who owns his pieces I suppose. My question is however where is it gonna go from here? What prices can we expect in the next exhibition-same as in the Sotheby's or lower? If you going to be lucky can you really afford commissioning piece from AM from now on? I am not trying to be negative here but to me it looks like massive jump and I wonder what the potential consequences it could have on AN fans, collectors. I am sure his future is bright

the neate auction, by skanky on Dec 13, 2007 22:12:26 GMT 1, IMO I dont think they will raise the prices to the Sothebys level at the next exhibition although they may raise slightly. It was a great day for Adam and Elms, I think it was a very strong piece and you could sense a lot of people were there to see it.

the neate auction, by RBK on Dec 13, 2007 22:35:19 GMT 1, A gallerist would be an idiot to price new works through their gallery at the same price the first piece by that artist realized at an auction house. Slow and steady wins the race!!!
PP&P showed a massive jump (20-30K) compared to pieces from In Selected Stores Only (8-15K). If I had to guess I'd say 35-45K for next solo show for most of the works.

I think you're right RBK although my guess for an average sized piece would be 30k plus vat on commissions which is a 5k increase. But who knows in a year time or so. I think their is another original from the p,p &p in the Bonhams urban art sale in feb.

the neate auction, by artlover on Dec 13, 2007 22:45:58 GMT 1, Sorry I don't post a lot but I'm slowly coming out of my shell...
Is there any sort of going rate for Neate's pair of self-portrait prints? Answering via PM is fine if you'd not like this out in the open. Interested buyer here.

Hopefully there won't be many more turning up at auction too soon. I think its difficult for the gallery with a result like this, what do they do? Sell the next lot at half what they would reach at a public sale? Some of the larger pieces at P,P & P went for considerably more than 30k in any case (the self portraits etc.) as I believe you would know Frankie

the neate auction, by RBK on Dec 13, 2007 23:00:20 GMT 1, How much were the SPs at the show? And were they sold as a pair? I remember hearing 75K GBP thrown out somewhere.
Murakami's galleries sell new originals for a fraction of what they are fetching at auction. A gallery can't piss off its client base and loyal collectors who have been supporting that gallery/particular artists for years. It rewards the early adopters.

the neate auction, by la on Dec 13, 2007 23:16:38 GMT 1, Yes and no. A street piece is done by Neate and some of them are really good and some of them aren't, they were mainly left 'on the street' for people to pick up and keep. Adam did them while developing his work, like other artists have drawing books. An original is from a gallery (usually Elms Lesters for the most recent ones) and have full provinance and are 'finished' articles etc. As a slight warning some of the street pieces would be really easy to copy. ;D Manchester Mike will conclude this by pointing out my mistakes 8.5/10 Marked you down slightly for spelling provenance wrong and not pointing out that an archive of every street piece ever left can be found on www.adamneate.co.uk/
MM am I right to say some of Neate's street pieces are not displayed in his website!!
