Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by BME on Dec 14, 2007 1:02:51 GMT 1, Have you thought about putting it in perspex-Someone (Harveyn I think) had pics of his and its seriously hot. If you're going to continue to use it as a table it will take gravy better too.

Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by otomi on Dec 14, 2007 1:21:49 GMT 1, lol... it'll be fine, what's the worst that could happen? Don't answer that. As for H's box, yes it looks really good framed but mine is quite a bit bigger and would be far too big framed in perspex, anyway I know I'd end up using it as a stool. On one side I have a Bunny Boy, other; Bunny Girl, other; Faile Dog, other; Bret the Hitman. Every side is class and I don;t want to have to build a machine out of a skateboard and a record player to display all sides. Like I said I reckon it would be amazing as a framed piece - it would be 50cm x over 2m excluding the space in between the pieces - how amazing would that look! If I do go ahead (think I will) I;ll post pics.
What do you do with your prints table cloth?

Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by krazy on Dec 14, 2007 7:23:42 GMT 1, My god man, don't cut it up! If I was Faile, I'd be very upset at the prospect of someone cutting up my work. IMO, despite the fact that you've purchased the box and are the 'legal' owner, you are really just 'looking after' that piece on behalf of the artist for future generations to admire. By destroying the medium, it takes away from the original purpose of the piece.
I like the idea of hanging it from the roof by a cable. You could put it up against the wall, and then turn it around every few weeks so you can appreciate the different images.
But please please don't chop it up. It's the equivalent of me taking an original canvas and cutting it into squares to stick onto a piece of furniture.

Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by Deleted on Dec 14, 2007 7:42:26 GMT 1, Having been considering doin this for a while now and am on the verge on going ahead and getting someone to chop up my sexy ass Faile box. I managed to bag my all time favourite Faile box earlier on this year - it's amazing but we have something of a love/hate relationship, I love how it looks but hate how it stubs my toes every other week. It sits on my floor (don;t have big shelves) and just generally pisses me off by getting in the way all the time. I have become so accustomed to having it sit around that I find myself setting food and such on it all the time now, much to the dismay of my family who point out that it is ยฃ6000 worth of wood I;m using for a table (that's not what I paid for it, that's what someone offered me for it a few weeks back.) The thing is I don;t want to sell the piece as I love the imagery on it and know that it would looking f**king insane chopped up and framed in 1 long black frame but I was just wondering whether anyone else had massacred their box yet? thanks
worst idea ever...

Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by dime683 on Dec 14, 2007 8:12:28 GMT 1, i would pull all the nails out. it would then come apart quite easily, then frame all 4 sides. 4 originals for the price of one.
i actually met the guy who makes the boxes for faile at the show in nyc. he told me how much he charges them per box. i had to laugh since i just bought one for $1500.

Wherever you put it looks great. I love what Faile are saying about the boxes themselves:
[glow=red,2,300]This is a silkscreened wooden Faile box, strong enough to help you reach the places you shouldn't. Good for standing on, sitting on, serving a cup of tea on, or just for leisurely enjoyment. Each box is an original. Boxes don't come signed mainly because there is nowhere to sign them that feels right. They are a signature in themselves.[/glow]

Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by easycraig on Dec 14, 2007 10:10:12 GMT 1, I kinda like the thought of dismantling it... having not seen one close up... is it put together with nails? If so... you could probably remove the nails and have 6 individual pieces that could be framed together or separate... that would look really cool!

Has anyone else chopped up their Faile box?, by Jef Aerosol on Dec 14, 2007 14:19:34 GMT 1, You guys tend to sacralize and worship art a lot ! you'd be horrified by the way I stack my paintings or repaint old canvases I've got fed up with etc... I have often stencilled chairs or tables or other pieces of furniture and they are meant to be used as such ! Same for all the leather jackets or suitcases I used to stencil years ago... Putting them in perspex would be strange ! Of course, this means that all pieces of art you buy should be at decent prices and that you should not think of how much you could re-sell them but of how much you paid for them and of how long you have enjoyed them so far. Then divide the price you paid by the number of months of enjoyment and you'll see that it's well worth the price... The problem is that many people only think of how much the piece is worth if they re-sell it ! Sometimes I think art should lose value with time instead of the contrary... Shouldn't "pop" (popular) art remain something that brightens our daily life ? and gets worn out after a while ? Then it's time for another piece... All that implies that art should never reach insane prices, of course... In that respect, "arthothรจques" (dunno if you have those in the UK : "art libraries") where you can borrow or hire pieces of art for a given time, are a pretty cool idea... Street art often fights ultra capitalism and yet a lot of "street-art collectors" act in such a capitalistic way ! Posess, own, have, acquire, sell, profit, resell, flip, etc...
photo taken in Lille (France) in 1984 or 85... (no red arrow yet !)
