Very sad to see this being removed, for obvious reasons, but also as this was on route into the Festival site as you left the village thus raising excitement levels even higher that they are that point anyway.
It's a few years now since I've been and understand it 'disappeared' from site a wee while back. Didn't realise it sold on Ebay. Wonder what the listing looked like and what it sold for....
Lets see where this pops up in the coming months....would be great for it to return to the area somehow. For me, it was part of the Glastonbury journey and experience......but sadly, I very much doubt it.

Numerous tests have been carried out & it's 100% recoverable!

As for rather having the print...there isn't 1 of this mate, it's unique & iconic!
Must have been ยฃ5000 to move it and respray Respray what?? Nothing will be resprayed...it's now a 6 - 9 month process for removing the layers of paint & restoring the original artwork underneath. You obv have no idea of just what's involved mate! It's well into 6 figures what this'll cost fully restored...it was nearly 20k for designing the frame, the steels, fabrication, ground works, welding etc etc then lifting & transportation! As for rather having the print...there isn't 1 of this mate, it's unique & iconic! |

Probably very similar to this major restoration process above which was well into the mid six figures to do and that one only had small portions of graffiti to remove. To restore a piece completely covered with several layers is quite a different story. From what I have seen this can only be truly "uncovered" if the top layers of paint are chemically different in ways where a layer can be removed using certain chemicals which will not affect the target layer which will most likely be acrylic spray paint in this case. I've only seen it successfully done when covered with one single layer where the cover-up paint is usually quite different than the spray acrylic and can be separated. In this case I'd assume with multiple layers of both cover-up layers and additional acrylic layers, it would be almost impossible to reveal the original image. They can probably reveal small portions of the original image to reveal proportion and placement but a majority of it will have to be "restored" or what we would call repainted. Even in the Toronto piece above they had to basically re-paint the entire piece and that was with it just partially covered with one layer. Would be great to see the entire process if they document it but I'm pretty confident they won't show the actual "restoration" much just as they left most of that out in the piece above for obvious reasons.

We've had experts go & do their tests to see if it can be done & yes, it can...to what extent it's "restored" we won't know until we get to that point!
