Spot-on Snausages. Hang-up sold one a couple of months ago for ยฃ1,500 and there's no way these have gone up by ยฃ500 in that time. I reckon ยฃ1.5k - ยฃ1.6k is realistic and I am after one (need to sell a few bits first though)!

If they come back up for sale I will start a proper thread with images.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by rockhopper on Nov 23, 2009 12:27:41 GMT 1, I feel sick. My Stop & Search has just been delivered, and the tube has a 2" x 1" x .5" dent in it, look like it had a hefty kick off the postmans size 9's! Despite being wrapped in butchers paper the print has been damaged. Does anyone have any experience with claiming of the RM? Print was sent specail delivery, with ยฃ2500 insurance cover, do they actually pay out? Can damage be repaired? Any advice/support appreciated Thanks

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by willywonka on Nov 23, 2009 12:31:14 GMT 1, I presume the dent was obvious when the postie gave it to you so did you refuse to sign for it or sign for it stating it was damaged?
If not it could end up being more difficult to claim.

don't panic.
it can be fixed.
do not attempt to fix yourself - get prof to fix it - get receipt - claim. photo (do not use mobile to photo print) before and after & include with claim.
good luck & let us know how it goes.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by sand on Nov 23, 2009 12:37:11 GMT 1, As wonka says..if you noticed the damaged tube you should have opened the tube to check the print was okay, and if damaged you should have refused to sign for it.
This would have returned the print to the sender who would than have to make a claim with Royal Mail.
If you have signed for it, you are now liable to make a claim with Royal Mail (the seller cannot do it as you acknowledged the delivery of the said item).
Was the print bought from ebay? You will probably have to prove how much it is worth (ebay auction link / paypal receipts) etc.
And make sure to keep all original packaging as Royal Mail will probably want to examine if the print was reasonably packaged to prevent any damage.
Bit of a nightmare, hope you get it sorted.
Best of luck!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by GD303uk on Nov 23, 2009 12:40:30 GMT 1, good advise above, if you are ever signing for anything check it first no matter how friendly they are check and write down anything you find , if you donโt open and check write unseen or not checked by your sig' And get in touch as soon as possible with relevant people.
Good luck Special delivery is insured to a point they will want proof item is worth what you say and as we know we can pay more than list price for our art so proving its worth can be tricky.
Failing that a good restoration job could be an option.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by silvermyn on Nov 23, 2009 12:43:01 GMT 1, Same thing happened with my S&S a while back but I was the seller
Sadly any repair (no matter how good) will devalue the print. If it was purchased via eBay I would consider filing a dispute claiming the item was not as descibed and return it to the seller once you have had the money back. Provided the print was properly insured then the seller should be able to claim back off RM.
Good luck with sorting it out.

Can I ask why you think this? It's amazing what can be done these days. Surely a print that has been repaired and the damage is no longer visible would not be affected?
For example, Lee's 'Laugh Now' canvas - looks as good as new!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by schlomo on Nov 23, 2009 12:50:44 GMT 1, I have claimed through royal mail before. They are slack at getting back to you, it will seem like they have totally ignored your letter, and just when you think you should probably write again they send you a letter saying they have just received your original letter sent a month before (postal strikes?? or just shas?? who knows). They are RUBBISH at keeping you in the loop, but they do sort things out, all be it at a snails pace. I think mine took over three months to sort out in the end, eventually they just sent me a cheque for the full amount with a letter saying they were sorry it had happened
As everyone says, take lots of pictures. I would take it asap to a framer and ask if there is a way of sorting it out, mine got a crease out of my VA which i thought he would not be able to do, so there is a hope!
My fingers are crossed for ya man, let us know how it goes.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by sand on Nov 23, 2009 12:54:45 GMT 1, Like schlomo when I made a claim for a parcel going missing. It took about 3 months to resolve, but in the end I did get the full amount back via cheque.
So it can take a while.
Just document everything...lots of pics...payment receipts...keep all packaging and provide as much proof on the claims form...and than (unfortunately) it's a case of staying patient.

I disagree with this. It's not the sellers fault and if the buyer had wanted to do this they should have not signed for it and sent it back as the seller will no longer be able to claim.

Spot on. In my book It would be poor form going through Paypal to recover your money. If the problem is with RM and you signed for it, I canยดt see why the seller should be held responsible for this unfortunate accident.
Hope you get it sorted.

You are right but that's not the way PayPal see it. Trust me, I've had to deal with this issue myself.
If the print has not been packed properly (bulletproof) and marked as delicate/fragile then the seller could still be on the hook. Also, damaged packaging is not always obvious so it's not necessarily fair to put the onus on the buyer just because they signed for it.
Damage is not really a problem if the seller insured the package to the full value; they should be able to claim the value of the print once they have returned the funds to the buyer. The problem with insurance is that that the buyer has no rights to claim under a policy that the seller took out.
Anyway, get loads of pictures of the packaging and don't throw any of it away.
