Banksy Stop and Search Print, by bonesy on May 6, 2010 10:58:02 GMT 1, Really? I only just decided to move it as I could suddenly use the money for another purchase. The last few sales on Expressobeans are $4350 (with PC), $3100 (framed w/o PC), and $3900. None have been reported sold since February and I am not seeing any completed sales on ebay. I tried using the Search function on here, but it never works very well. The print has been in a mylar sleeve on foamcore since purchased. I am in the US but will include free insured shipping (packaged very well) by your preferred carrier. ยฃ2K on here on a good day. I tried for ยฃ2K for mine on here a couple of months ago but settled for ยฃ1850. The last one on ebay (120558763850 25th April) went for ยฃ2K (but seller paid ebay/paypal fees out of that) Good luck with the sale.
Thanks for the input. That ebay sale had no Pest Control COA (which hurts the seller much more than the ยฃ50 it costs IMO).

I'd agree with that - I could have got the ยฃ2K I wanted if mine had had Pest Control but it didn't so I took the ยฃ1850 without.
Might be worth PMing hops - I know he was after one a while back and he's in the US so wouldn't have the international shipping/VAT costs to worry about.
What are you doing up anyway? go back to bed

But if the print is insured (which I want to do for the sake of myself and the buyer) then customs may be charged. I will mark 'gift' if the buyer likes but I want to fully insure it.

Nonsense. There's a sticky on this somewhere, done by dmandpenfold.

From the hmrc website
"Goods sent as a gift that are over ยฃ40 in value are liable to import VAT."
Your only way of avoiding the VAT is to declare a very low value, but then that value is what is used for insurance purposes by the seller - so if the print gets lost/damaged, the seller won't be able to get their money back.
Bonesy: if you want to sell this to a UK buyer, and you want to send insured, I think you're probably unlikely to get more than $2500 for the print. Add the 17.5% VAT to this, and the shipping, and it will end up at about $3K for the buyer which converts to just over ยฃ2K - which would be the best (most expensive) price paid so far this year...(that I'm aware of).
You'd be better off finding a US buyer if you can.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by hitme on May 6, 2010 18:32:17 GMT 1, I sent a pretty expensive Banksy print over a year ago to the UK. Used UPS. Marked it as a gift, and insured it for full value. I was told customs did not have access to the slip showing the insured amount - copies only went to me and UPS. Customs did not see it. Worked great, no fees on the other end (receiving party). It's worth checking out at your UPS store. Hopefully times have not changed.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by spirit on May 6, 2010 18:33:04 GMT 1, Actually I'm going to correct myself...
I seem to remember that import VAT is not due if the item originated in the UK and VAT was already paid on it. In this case the print was originally sold by POW and VAT would have already been paid at that time, therefore I believe it would not be liable for VAT again.
I could be wrong about this, but I definitely remember reading that somewhere along the line...
It might be that the buyer would have to pay the VAT but could then claim it back - they would need the original receipt to prove the item was originally purchased in the UK and VAT was paid.

In the Netherlands you would be right. Once VAT has been paid it can not be charged again on the same item.

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Collection 1 on May 6, 2010 19:08:32 GMT 1, Here's what I am doing as a buyer/seller from Canada who buy and sells stuff from/to UK. You don't need insurance. Insurance will refund your full value only if there's a plane crash or something like that! 1) sending: mark as a gift with a very low value (20$) 2) put it in 2 bomb proof tubes! 3)have a tracking number and a signed for 4) use a fast delivery service ex. (4 days delivery)
I used this method since 2 years now and i never paid income fees and people who bought stuff from me too!

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by Deleted on May 6, 2010 20:28:08 GMT 1, Knowing the revenue then they might nobble you for the differential between the VAT originally paid and the import duty based upon the insured amount.
A pal of mine bought a mountain bike in California and tried to import it into the UK suggesting that it had been bought in the UK originally and he'd paid the duty - got into all sorts of shit.
There are three certainties in life. Death, taxes and the fact that you're likely to have sex less with your wife in 30 years of marriage than by your fiancee in the 2/3 years of your engagement...

Banksy Stop and Search Print, by siegelsiegel on Jun 9, 2010 5:02:18 GMT 1, so went to the auction today, just for the stop and search. I got there after the lunch break, which was lot 192; stop and seach was lot 210. Every lot was going for under the estimated value, which gave me great hope in getting it. they get to 210 (little excited never been to a live auction) throw my paddle up 2000, very quickly goes to 2400 and everyone stops bidding. now its just me and someone whos bidding over the phone (who are you??!!!?) i had decided before the auction that my price was 3200 and wouldnt go above, throw it up at 32 then phone bidder goes 34, i let it go once twice and of course couldnt let it go and bid again, as quickly as i bid 36 the mystery bidder bid 38..... if only the phones went down i would have had it for 2500.... IF ANYONE HAS ONE FOR 3200 the cash is sitting here and burning a whole in my pants... what a day

You should have bought mine in person a few weeks ago Siegel
