Banksy โข Flag GOLD, by darjeeling on Jan 19, 2008 2:28:45 GMT 1, darjeeling, what world do you live in? It sounds cheap whereever it is!!! And I' like to know what kind of fantasy land you live in? If you think $6000 to $8000 for a signed print that cost $1000 is cheap then put me in your will baby. You obviously have a vested interest in your promoting some mythic aura around these prints as you also bought a print in Bethlehem. But if you're so concerned about your 'experience' over the print than why do you constantly defend ridiculous prices for these?
But come on, have you not noticed that signed B&W Trolleys are selling for about ยฃ2.5k Coloured for about ยฃ1.5k Stop and Search for about ยฃ2k on a good day? And keep in mind there are only 500 of the S&S image available as opposed to over 1100 Flag images out there.
In those terms my estimate of about ยฃ3-4k for a signed flag is very generous. And if I were ever to drop as much as ยฃ5-10k on a signed Banksy it sure as hell wouldn't be a gold flag, it would be a much more iconic signed Bomb Hugger, signed Happy Chopper, signed Rat, (actually 2 signed Rats for that price) a signed LIITA etc.

Banksy โข Flag GOLD, by alsbabar on Jan 19, 2008 10:19:09 GMT 1, it is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it - and that is the bottom line, not because others think its worth x amount of pounds. To me, it is worth ยฃ14K, perhaps more, because I weigh up all the factors, like cost of print, going to the place to get it, the limited numbers. As for the iconic status of the print, I also believe that the Gold Flag and Trolleys in Bethlehem, are truly iconic/epic prints, and has a much moral status to them. When have you ever heard Banksy go to the press and discuss an issues?
You just need to see others reactions to those who have been to get a feel for the magnitude of going to Santas Ghetto 2007. For those who have, its been life changing, for those who havent, they wish they had.
I dare say with your generous ยฃ3-4K, you wouldnt get close to owning one, as most people who went are not flippers, but avid collectors.

Sorry mate, but I find that hilarious! ยฃ14k! ;D
Say I wanted one and was prepared to buy one.
The only thing I would be bothered about is will it look good on a wall and how little can I pay for it.
I wouldn't give a monkeys about the original buyers "life changing journey of discovery". What a load of 5hite. Its just another Banksy print. Its not that deep. None of it is.
Bumping the price up by ยฃ13k, simply because its was purchased in one of the biggest hell holes on earth, just shows how vulgar the art scene is.
Personally I didn't agree with the location of Santa's Ghetto 2007. Bold move yes. But I don't buy art due to some peoples plight that quite frankly will never be resolved. Especially not by some rich city boys that flew over at the drop of a hat to spend what would keep a local family in food for for a year on a 58x77 bit of wall decoration. Or worst still, keeping it in a fucking portfolio.
Neg all you want. It means nothing to me.

No intention of negging you, but that doesn't stop me thinking that you're a self opinionated, ignorant p*ick. It was Banksy that chose the location of SG07 and his decision alone. It was chosen because of a concept that he believes in and on that basis he should at least be shown some respect for going with his beliefs and not taking the easy option of Charing X road. Bottom line is nobody had to go and nobody was made to go, so why did you find the location so disagreeable?
Attended by 'rich city boys that flew over at the drop of a hat' I wish I was rich and am certainly no city boy. I must have met a dozen people out there who'd travelled over and I know about another dozen who also went over and believe me your perception of the sort of people who went over is not only bullshit it is insulting. I think you'll find the rich city element would just buy off the secondary market. Not that I believe that too many of these prints will crop up.
Incidently, I did agree with your opinion of the 14k price as ridiculous.

Hey Stuey, I so agree with the above. You really do get the feeling that this really was Banksys baby, from the concept to the organisation to the friends/artists who supported him. Banksy at his very best. Yes he's made lots and lots of money but you can't help to think that the man will put alot of his personal money in the right places. And there is nothing wrong with him keeping a tidy sum for his self so he can continue with other great causes.
The living Legend that is Banksy.

Instead Banksy took the easy option with the prints. Two recycled images that had nothing to do with the concept or location. Ideally Banksy should have released a print for the ghetto which would have made the visit more personal such as the dove or maybe another image that he could have had hidden up his sleeve.
As for values of the prints that were obtained (but not yet received) from the ghetto they are worth what the buyer paid for them. If they think they got them for a bargain price, well then do Mr Banksy a favour and send him and POW some more money for the cause. If not stick them on ebay with a 99p reserve and let the market tell you how much they are worth. Just stop this stupid bickering..

Banksy โข Flag GOLD, by alsbabar on Jan 19, 2008 12:50:38 GMT 1, i agree with all, i am just playing devils advocate with the price. To me, like Bongo says, any offrer has to be a ridiculous amount for me to even consider parting with my print from SG2007. I agree with Stuey, the 3 guys I went with, are far from rich city boys and the people I know who did go, are avid admirers of art and went along to support the cause

its as fragile as paper is fragile i guess.
pretty thickish glossy gold paper. its signed in the front and numbered behind. It has two signatures almost.... one screenprinted (presumably from the original FLAG image) and one handsigned.

Banksy โข Flag GOLD, by slowmo on Feb 1, 2008 13:20:42 GMT 1, LOL do not use washing gloves. I have a silver flag and I know a lot of people ended up with fingerpritns from touching the actual image, as long as you handle carefully you should be OK, cotton for safety, rubber gloves, well I'd leave them in the kitchen.
Another warning, if this is a same process as the silver, keep it miles away from any humidity, mine has become quite ripply after leaving it outside my bathroom door for a few months.
