As far as video available, I'm yet to see anything that has left me as amazed as the first minute of whales and orgies. There is just something special watching him so effortlessly paint that woman in the bathroom with what appears to be abstract initially and then your mind (my mind at least) tries to catch up to the speed his is working and in less than 30 seconds (including his once over glance to make sure he's happy with it before leaving one last line) he makes a composition that just leaves me speechless. I can't guess how many times I've watched the first minute of this but it's well over 100 (great accompanying soundtrack too):
I also dig that video of him spray painting a head with a pair of cans.

true, most geniuses are a bit mental (mean that in the best possible way). Laz's price structuring shows how lttle experience he has in the art work and that he's in it for the quick buck.

I would have loved one of the large pieces and I really thought Laz was going to come in similar to Harrington but unfortunately no. Premiere pricing for first UK show.

In the big scale of things print sales don't mean shit about the artist, It usually means they can't be flipped. Most of the originals were sold, so it means real collectors are buying.

He was absolutely correct in what he wrote before. Top end pieces at Levine were $10k (I consider City Girl which is 4 feet square to be top end) and i picked that painting up for a tad under $10k. At the Laz show, similar sized paintings were priced from a minimum of $40k to a maximum of $75k. The similar pieces (See no, hear no, speak no triptych) were all gone before i had a crack at them and i would have bought them all at 10X the price that i paid merely a year and a half earlier for a "similar composition." As it is, i bought more than a few at that size and was HAPPY to do so. His talent is undeniable when you see these things in the flesh and as opposed to some of the artists who's prices seem to hit the stratosphere overnight, Choe had a rock solid 10+ year career behind him, had self published a few books, and had numerous sold out shows on the resume. This is one case where I thought pricing was set fairly in this rapidly rising price scene. Considering all the watercolors were sold almost immediately and there are (last i saw) 2 out of 27 paintings remaining between the two Laz shows I'd say he did just fine. From my vantage point, this was and/is a talent that had been simmering for years and now looks to be an overnight sensation when it was really anything but. Couple all this with a film about his life and art coming out which we all know without seeing is only going to help him further especially given some of the videos posted initially in this thread.
One measure I personally use (and I know much wiser people that do the same as they are the ones that taught me) to see whether or not an artists is fairly priced is do you constantly see recent stuff turning up at auction and failing to get purchased or selling at or near former pricing? To me, that is an indication that the seller isn't in love with the work and wanted to move it to make room for something else. If pricing has jumped exponentially, one expects to see some supply hit the tape. As far as I'm aware of, I have not seen one larger painting from either the Levine or Laz shows be offered up for resale (though i don't follow ebay) AND prices did in fact jump exponentially between the two shows. That says a lot to me and I, for one, can easily understand why- he's that talented of an artist which is extremely rare. Though take what I say about Choe's artwork with a dose of salt as i'm obviously biased.

I think Laz just fail to keep the websites updated with sales. Maybe it generates more enquiries for the few odd pieces that really are left over...
I agree 100% about the Laz show pictures. I respect it's different in the flesh, but Lee3's pictures of his Choes and quite a few others I've seen are far nicer imo to much of what Laz were exhibiting.

Remember, this film is 10 years in the making and this movement and prices were A LOT different even 5 years ago let alone 10. I said some really dumb stuff 10 years ago (still do), the difference being that I don't have a camera following me around.
