Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by jamesreeve5 on Jun 17, 2008 7:10:46 GMT 1, hmmmm... still in that Las Vegas mindset huh jetset? I don't think there is any insider trading going on with galleries trying to rip off buyers with this, and to be honest I take this rumor with a grain of salt since Marsea at New Image has been telling me that Dietch was going to be showing Faile for like the last year (I don't believe this either). Did you make it out to the Las Vegas collects show? Thats an example of galleries ripping off buyers. Gagosian and Quinn have to be laughing all the way to the bank with those Damien Hirsts on the back wall. Any time Hirst makes subpar work, they know they can sell it to Vegas. You wouldn't believe how little I am actually in Vegas anymore. We've got an office in Brooklyn now too! If you don't think that this is insider trading in the most obvious way, then you are crazy! C'mon, I thought you were in the business too, James? Aren't you a dealer in LA now? Funny comments though... Hirst is made for Vegas! Get your fake Picasso's and Hirst's right here, baby!
First things first... congrats on getting out of Vegas
Hmm.. I might be missing a bit in the internet translation, but the Hirsts in the show are very real. They are owned by the Fertittas (sic) along with a very large Warhol Dollar sign and some other obnoxious things.
As far as insider trading: yes I believe it occurs. Do I think Faile is going to "rise to the top" because their stuff is being hustled around more than anyone elses? No
Do I think many of the people invovled with this movement have an over-inflated view of its importance in the grand scheme of things? Yes
And yes I do deal. But the last piece(s) I purchased were some Araki Polaroids. I actually have a few shows I am curating in Vegas over the next few months with artists from NY and LA, I'll let the board know obviously. Jetset, if you are in town you should stop by.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by guest2 on Jun 17, 2008 7:40:34 GMT 1, I have no idea if this is true or not but this rumor has been around for quite some time. 1st it was Banksy going over to Gargosian, recently I've heard it was Parla within the month and now this Faile Rumor. I heard the Deitch Rumor too, Saatchi bought an Adam Neate, Special Waiting lists, Laz hated banksy, Banksy hates Laz, they will def NOT - 100% for sure release trolley hunters(!), Festival will be released 100% exactly one month ago - (even the plates are made up)!, Nick Walker is Banksy and the Pope is Catholic.
With all these flying around someone will get something right soon and say TOLD YOU SO

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by chuggabuttnose on Jun 17, 2008 11:22:59 GMT 1, JSG, you know f**k all about anything, you speak like you know Faile, when asked about you, they said "who"!!!
What i dont get about you is, you do the hard sell, like you did on the Camo boy, got an abundance of Gold Flags, which really takes the proverbial, as it really does make the Bethlehem print sale a joke, as it was, those who went out there, had a choice either trolleys or flags, people couldnt have both, but you seem to bandy them around on here and on ebay (skonierski is your account also).
I dont get your agenda, you represent artist, but yet you try and rip "kids with no money" on here!!!
You're just another glorified flipper, now jog on!!!

Not forgetting that they also tried to sell the Banksy Donkey from Palestine. People have short memories.

No, I wasn't saying those were fake, I was saying that I've seen lots of fake work being tossed around the Vegas galleries. People are selling a brand in this town, not art. That's what I hate about it, and that's also kind of intersting to me at the same time.
In regards to Faile. I don't know what will happen to them. I do however think that time will show great success for them. There's been enough speculation and popularity imparted on them from all sides, that's for sure.
From the outside looking in, I was just saying that they only appear to be a classic example of the cream rising to the top of a passionate fringe-genre, to be then appropriated by the fine art establishment. There's nothing wrong with it, but due to the exclusive nature of the art world, the work itself inevitably becomes exclusive... Contradictory to the inclusive nature of street art? We'll see.
I'd be willing to bet that we won't see anymore Faile shower curtains anytime soon though...
In regards to your comment about people's over-inflated or self-important view on things, I think you find that in all areas of the arts, and it's an indication of passion more than anything else.
Are you curating the M Modern shoes here in Vegas? I'm familiar with a number of pop-surrealist shows happening here over the summer. Should be a lot of fun, most definitely...

Interesting commentary.
Let's stick to the facts:
I don't speak like I know Faile, because I've never met Faile. I am very familiar with their work, their trajectory, and the people they associate with. No big deal. Who gives a fuck. I'm just calling it as I see it.
As far as me dong the hard sell on Camo-Boy, so what. I was proud to stand behind it. The edition is sold out from me. Everyone who supported the edition and got one was very happy. I haven't had a single complaint! 'nuff said.
My sale of the Gold Flags was coordinated with a group of Palestinian people who really appreciated the help... I took $2K from each sale for myself. $1K because I paid for them to get the art, and $1K for my effort. Why do I share this wit you now? Because you've raised my integrity into question, when there's no reason.
My actions of making additional money to support the Palestinian cause under my own auspices did not make the print sale a joke. It simply evened the playing field. So some Palestinians got ahold of some Gold Flags instead of some British people, and that's bad? C'mon.
I've already said my peace about the "kids with no money" comment. Can noone take a sarcastic joke here?

I had nothing to do with the sale of the Donkey Wall from Palestine. It was posted on ebay, and I knew who was selling it from having been over there and talking with the locals, and told people here that I could put them in touch. Nothing more, nothing less.
The wall sold. It is now in London in some rich dude's place. I didn't have anything to do with it. I simply told people it was for sale, and moved on... Too bad you haven't...

yes lets stick to facts, which you seem to be totally ignoranus to.
Your previous comment about Faile, made it sound like you knew 100% that Faile was moving, when you dont know fuck all - so less you say about Faile the better - and that is me calling it as it is!!!
Bollocks they havent sold out, you sold the Camoboy Handfinished on a bullshit promise - which was never fulfilled, I know several people who bought from you. You charged some people $126 delivery, but then had them pick them up from you - so you pocketed this money (this was discussed in a previous thread). ALso Camoboy hasnt sold out, Artrepublic has some for sale - the only sell out, is you!!!
Total fucking wank about the Gold Flags, what you have done is proven how greedy you are - how much of the money you made from selling the 5 flags on ebay have you donated back to charity - i bet you none. Heres another fact for you - Palestinians/locals were not supposed to purchase anything from Santas Ghetto, it was meant to encourage people to come out and see their plight. So what you have done is demeaned the whole exercise/purpose of SG 2007.
As for the Palestinian wall, what a load of bullshit, you got involved when you didnt need to, so you are tarnished with the same shitty brush.
Again Jog on Flipper

OK, I think this will probably be my last reply, then I'll just let you wallow in your own ignorance and hatred.
First off, it's ignoramus, not ignoranus. Learn the language if you're going to try and use it to communicate properly.
My previous comment about Faile was nothing more than sharing what I believe to be true, and what I was told by some mutual artist friends of ours. Simply fueling the speculation, as was the purpose of the thread to begin with. I'll say whatever the f**k I want about Faile, or anyone else for that matter. Everything that I said was positive and supportive of their position. I've always admired their work.
In regards to the Camo Boy; let's see, I am the publisher and seller of the edition, so yeah, you go ahead and tell me that I still have prints available. Sold Out, means I don't have anymore to sell. I can't control what others do with the prints they bought from me. I am the primary distribution point, and when I sell out of stock, the edition is SOLD OUT. As I said before, everyone that got their print was quite happy with it. Never received a single complaint. Furthermore, I would like to know what that Bulls**t promise was made on the hand-touched pieces? Everyone that picked up their piece directly from me in London saved about $200-$300 on VAT Tax, in addition to being reimbursed for all shipping charges... So, let's see; A historic print by one of the greatest artist's of our time hand-carried directly to you, and you save about $300-425? Yeah, you're right, I'm a big mean jerk out to take advantage of everyone. Sure, whatever you say. Your comments are obviously well founded.
The Gold Flags were sold for charity under my own auspices. I don't have to justify that to anyone. I know, and my Palestinian friends know what's right and what's good.
Again, I will not jog on. I will stay here and continue to do what I do.
Interesting commentary. Let's stick to the facts: I don't speak like I know Faile, because I've never met Faile. I am very familiar with their work, their trajectory, and the people they associate with. No big deal. Who gives a f**k. Can noone take a sarcastic joke here? yes lets stick to facts, which you seem to be totally ignoranus to. Your previous comment about Faile, made it sound like you knew 100% that Faile was moving, when you dont know f**k all - so less you say about Faile the better - and that is me calling it as it is!!! Bollocks they havent sold out, you sold the Camoboy Handfinished on a bulls**t promise - which was never fulfilled, I know several people who bought from you. You charged some people $126 delivery, but then had them pick them up from you - so you pocketed this money (this was discussed in a previous thread). ALso Camoboy hasnt sold out, Artrepublic has some for sale - the only sell out, is you!!! Total f**king wank about the Gold Flags, what you have done is proven how greedy you are - how much of the money you made from selling the 5 flags on ebay have you donated back to charity - i bet you none. Heres another fact for you - Palestinians/locals were not supposed to purchase anything from Santas Ghetto, it was meant to encourage people to come out and see their plight. So what you have done is demeaned the whole exercise/purpose of SG 2007. As for the Palestinian wall, what a load of bulls**t, you got involved when you didnt need to, so you are tarnished with the same s**tty brush. While I don't like to get into these spats too heavily I am a bit confused...
Was it for charity and you took a 2k cut? Then that's not so much for charity right?
Taking you on your word, doing the math on that you made about $6k on your charity work. :/
That's a little disappointing Jet Set...

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by buffin on Jun 18, 2008 10:55:24 GMT 1, I thought the whole SG deal was to get people out there to experience for themself what it was like in Bethlehem etc. The print was a carrot to get people off their butts. The money raised from SG went to charities so there was no need for JSG to get involved at all apart from personal gain.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by Guest on Jun 18, 2008 16:34:19 GMT 1, So now we get down to it. You hate me because you couldn't get a print at SG07... Who cares, get over yourselves. There's a line. You want a print; get in line. You're at the end of the line, you might not get a print. That's how it's always been.
POW is familiar with me... I'm sure that complaining now won't effect our ongoing friendship, but if you need someone to talk to, you can feel free to call them or myself, or even your therapist. I'm happy to take full responsibiity for this situation. You guys are absolutely right; I'm the asshole. Sorry your vacations to Palestine were ruined because you couldn't buy a Banksy print. Bummer.

Um, no. The people that are complaining that they went all the way to Palestine to buy a print and got denied missed the whole point. It wasn't about the art in the gallery, that was there to bring money in for the Palestinians. It was a publicity stunt to support Palestine. That's what I did, I went there and supported the people that I met and hung out with while I was there.
The whole point in getting people to come was to experience the conditions and support the Palestinian plight. If you came just to buy a print, then I don't feel bad that some Palestinians were ahead of you in line, and I loaned them the money to buy their prints.

I thought the point was to get people out there to experience conditions and to boost trade? The carrot of the prints was offered to get people off their butts and get out there. Your actions fly directly in the face of what was trying to be achieved. I applaud your honesty in admitting what happened but not your methods.

The carrot of the prints was offered to get people off their butts and get out there. Your actions fly directly in the face of what was trying to be achieved. I applaud your honesty in admitting what happened but not your methods. ...and apparently the "carrot of the prints" did just that. People still went, people still supported Palestine. My actions didn't effect the situation until after the prints were shipped to the buyers months after the show ended. You're talking out of context. People didn't stop going to Palestine because the print was sold out. The print wasn't even announced as sold out until after the show ended to make sure people kept coming to support the cause, not just the art. The Palestinian people made more money than they would have otherwise due to my efforts, and I don't care if some English people are pissed off at me because of it. I helped more than any of those whining assholes, so that's that. It's absolutely ridiculous that some people here would come at me like that, when they haven't done s**t themselves besides go there for a day to buy a f**king print to hang on THEIR wall, in THEIR home, for THEIR enjoyment... End of Story.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by thetruth55 on Jun 18, 2008 19:55:26 GMT 1, JetSet - do everyone here a favor and shut the fvck up.
How many other galleries/printers/"whatever the hell you guys call yourselves" get on this board and talk so much shit and piss off the people that support you lowlifes? Just about zero. Gain some professionalism and take your car dealership tactics somewhere else. I can't imagine what the artists that you print for would think if they knew how much shit you talked to collectors of their work.
All that comes to mind when I see the words JetSet on this board now is some hairy, lard-ass (Ron English-esque) clown running around in his playpen dressed in camoflauge.
I try to stick up for fellow Americans here, but you sir are a disgrace in every way.

Faile to move to a Major Gallery!, by alsbabar on Jun 18, 2008 22:21:19 GMT 1, sorry guys but I have to comment on Jetset, I know him personally and he is a good guy, his intentions are good and well received. What you guys arent probably aware is, how much he raised for the Palestinians, allowing a family to buy their land, which otherwise they would never have had such an opportunity.
He is a well respected and stand up guy, and this hostility towards him based innuendo's is one of the reasons this forum can be an unpleasant place.
