Advice on insurance anyone???, by loulou64 on Aug 7, 2008 11:27:23 GMT 1, Can anyone recommend any insurace products aimed at covering a personal art collection. I am starting to think that my basic home/contents might not be adequate. Cheers

Advice on insurance anyone???, by TAOI on Aug 7, 2008 13:41:03 GMT 1, Hi all, thanks for the kind words, we try our best Many people phone just with questions about their insurance who have no intention of taking out a policy at the moment - that's fine! It's always good to hear from fellow art collectors and help where possible. Contact us on 02380 222410, keith@taoi.co.uk or via pm'ing me.

Advice on insurance anyone???, by lee3 on Aug 7, 2008 16:37:25 GMT 1, any advice on brokers in the US? THANKS
I use Chubb in CA and they have no questions asked coverage. No appraisal needed until the piece is worth more than $100k and no need to keep getting appraisals in a bull market as they insure scheduled art at 150% of it's scheduled value giving you some room for appreciation. Your're covered in transit (so no need to buy insurace thru fed ex or when moving between homes) and the framers too. The cost is 21 cents per thousand which works out to be $210 per year per million of scheduled art. One of the least expensive assets to insure when compared with a home or auto (nor are you paying annual taxes on art either like the other two).

yes, it's called scheduled items. So, you have your blanket renters or homeowners insurance policy (plus any riders like earth quake insurance for CA residents) and then on top of that policy you schedule (list) any items of valuable art, jewelry, or anything else so that if you have a fire you get the value of your scheduled items plus the value of your policy remitted to you in a total loss. I would advise speaking to an insurance agent if you want to get more speficic information.

mind you this is layered on a homeowner's/renters policy. I would expect an art only insurance policy to be significantly higher for obvious reasons.

Still more expensive here, mines with home contents policy comes to about $2,000 per $1 million and that's a good deal
