Mr Brainwash as a person isn't in depute, he is a french film maker who over the last few years while filming documentary's for Banksy, Shepard Fairey and others decided to turn to being an artist himself.
He has been trying to release him film life remote control for a bit now, the question that people are asking is more did he conceptualize and produce (not physically as it has come out his army of interns did the bulk of the art work) the art or was it Banksy (who helped produce if not funded the art show in LA) pulling a prank on the art world by using Mr Brainwsh, possibly as a way of raising the funds to finish the films that have yet to be released by Mr Brainwash.

The only reason the question has come up is because almost every piece of work released at the show in LA was a rehash or art that has been re-hashed by other street artists.
The Oil paintings (which are just giclee's printed on Canvas) are the same as what Banksy did, the re-working of the Marlyn image by Warhol that was re-done by both Banksy and Fairey, the spray can that has been used for years by Rene Gagon and the Ali picture that Faile has also used for a while now.

I'm pretty sure this was all gone over in the first MBW thread though.

God, don't anyone dare start the rumor that MBW is Banksy.

I know MBW. He's a French guy. I forget his real name. There are pictures of him on thecobrasnake.com I can fish some out at some point.

Piece of trivia, he's actually Invaders cousin. Heard this from Shepard.

He's actually a really nice guy and means well - and has a French accent. (He looks exactly like his first bombs of a guy with a camera and a hat on - its a self portrait) Even though I bash his art relentlessly, I really like the guy.

Shepard Fairey confirmed at the Bonham's event this week that MBW is a distinct person than Banksy and also diplomatically said that his work at the "Life Is Beautiful" LA show was too similar to Banksy because he hasn't spent the time to develop as an artist in his own right and hires others to make most of his work.

This idea that he is purposely derivative is BS and a spin job. I've spoken to him and many artists in the LA scene and MBW does not mean to be derivative. He means to be famous. He wants to notoriety of being an artist so he's spending to get there - and frankly there is no telling if he even has any talent in and of himself or whether he's just bought it all.

Supposedly, I have heard from a huge artists that Banksy was moderately upset at MBW for jacking his style and for basically getting into the inner circle on false pretense of making a movie and then never finishing it.

In an ironic twist, which is where this weird Banksy is MBW rumor comes from, Banksy was so sickened by MBW never finishing his movie, that he supposedly finished MBW's documentary for him in exchange for all the footage MBW had of Banksy. (This is from a very reliable source - airtight - as well as murmurs I've heard before) Hence the

Banksy decided to spin the movie from being a documentary on street art, to being a documentary on MBW's ego and how he basically wanted to emulate what he saw.

Partly because supposedly Banksy is now playing a director role on the film MBW is directing, the rumor that they are the same person came about... but I can say 100% its false.

I will say that the Barack image is the only good image to come from MBW.

I also will say MBW is a ass for painting over the Banksy's on Melrose.

So..... in a roundabout way there are you hinting that Monsieur Brainwash is Banksy then?. I quite like the Cat/Bat girl canvas on his site.
