Banksy Donuts Print, by bullet on Jul 26, 2009 10:53:12 GMT 1, its just a representation of american and / or consumer culture, i would not read to much into it.
i have read a couple of things on 'other' forums and banksy would be in hysterics reading it i would have thought.

Banksy Donuts Print, by leumasdarnley on Jul 26, 2009 11:13:12 GMT 1, Banksy is the master of saying a lot with a little I personally would find it difficult to accept the print didn't have a direct meaning. Very few of his prints have more than two objects, and in those prints the additional objects are needed for effect. I have been racking my head for what he was trying to do not sure if I am right but perhaps the evidence is mounting.

Banksy Donuts Print, by viperuk on Jul 26, 2009 11:14:03 GMT 1, Im not sure if anyone has made this suggestion about how the draw will be made. But I have heard from a few sources that only people that were on the POW email list who received a donuts email can win. So if you register for the lottery and are on the list then you stand a chance of winning, however register lots of email addresses who were not on the list and basically you are wasting your time.
Kind of makes sense to me, why would POW allow thousands of registrations from people who were initially not on the subscription list?
Thoughts!!! :0)

Banksy Donuts Print, by leumasdarnley on Jul 26, 2009 11:25:55 GMT 1, I was wrong notice the lights on the Banksy motorcycle and the ones on the bikes used for Obama's. In JFK's the lights are both red on the bike, for Obama one is red one is blue like in the print. The style of the bike is older and maybe I am digging too hard but maybe we are on to something.

Banksy Donuts Print, by G-Man on Jul 26, 2009 11:53:48 GMT 1, I don't see how multiple entries are possible. Getting multiple email addresses is easy but you can only have one name on your credit card. The name you enter will have to match the name on your cc. Enter your name multiple you own name multiple times in the drawing and it will be deleted. Yeah you can enter you mom dad sister friends. But ultimately that is one name per person and is fair enough. Don't see what the fuss is about. Excellent way to sell prints.
I think that the reality of the situation is that there will be people who do enter with multiple email addresses, the name part could be as simple as just putting your forename, if POW did search their database of entries for multiple they would probably only do a name search and delete anyone stupid enough to put in the same name with their different email addresses
As for me I'm so paranoid that I only entered once even though I have 3 email accounts

Banksy Donuts Print, by Agent Provocateur on Jul 26, 2009 12:31:52 GMT 1, Nice! I like the image and imo the message is about the topsy turvy priorities the US has... many people probably caring more about a healthy and nutritious snack than wars, the climate, economic melt down etc etc
viperuk I'm not sure that can be true as why is the registration point on the pictures on walls home page? Where anyone can go (whether they had an email or not) and register. Think it's just going to be a free for all, in it to win it type thing!
Good luck everyone, hope there's going to be a few happy posts next week

Banksy Donuts Print, by Rude Copper on Jul 26, 2009 12:49:39 GMT 1, donuts- a symbol of american consumerism cavalcade- a illustration of dedication to the protection of the american way of life
the combination of the two is a metaphor of the absurdity of serious focus on trivialities, when there are bigger issues in the world to address.
that was my initial interpretation, i have'nt really read anything that sways me from it, and i still think it is little more than a cartoon in the times.

Banksy Donuts Print, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 26, 2009 13:56:09 GMT 1, I think it´s a great image and if by a miracle I manage to win one in the lottery...I will happily hang it on my wall. In terms of a Banksy image having to have a deep political and significant meaning...I don´t agree. This is classic Banksy humour and executed perfectly. It makes me smile every time I look at it and I guess that´s the most important thing. Or if you´re looking for a deeper message...how about the idea it´s about the police having misplaced priorities and instead of doing basic policing they waste their time on trivial matters such as spending hour after hour completing red tape [or in this case protecting their own interests...symbolised by the doughnut]. Or if you want to go even deeper...what does the doughnut represent? How about the American dream? From the outside it´s sugar coated and alluring. But somewhat flawed with a massive hole in it and needs to be protected from attack [perhaps foreign]. I like the fact that you can read into the image as much as you want...rather than having the message rammed home.. I hope all the people who don´t like the image won´t be entering the lottery...but I doubt that. Fingers crossed i´ll finally get lucky....but I also doubt that! Best of luck to everyone...hopefully a lot of forum members will end up with one.
Fair enough Sand, I hope you manage land one, along with the other people who do love it.
I'm not looking for Banksy to have some type of "enemy of the state" status, or ONLY use his art to make politically related comments. FWIW I feel similarly about Nola. My favourite prints of his are probably Morons, Barcode and Grannies and some of my favourite images are the dove in body armour, monkey parliament and the Barcode pieces, so I'm open to all sorts of comments on all sorts of topics. I like some of your thinking/interpretation re: possible intended meanings of this print though. However it just isn't something that I connect with or find especially moving in any way. I'm not knocking it as such, I am not at all interested in buying it.

Joke in the side, that is interesting. I like the idea that the doughnut reresents the president and that there's some link to choosing based on a prefered colour. Intriguing, as are some of the other ideas in this thread. Good reading it makes!

Banksy Donuts Print, by curiousgeorge on Jul 26, 2009 14:08:30 GMT 1, In Iraq you can see armoured motorcades protecting massive food convoys as they drive into allied forces camps, 95% of the food is crapola too
Each time a soldier or private security eat a meal at these bases, through a card swipe system the U.S Government are then billed $68 per each meal(bit it a donut or a full blown 3 course meal. The company that bills the Government is owned by erm a dude called Donald something or other
ok ok I've gone way off topic

Banksy Donuts Print, by digitalkid on Jul 26, 2009 14:18:44 GMT 1, I can see a record amount hitting ebay within the first month of delivery. Could be as high as 50% of the edition.
I've just read the whole thread and the above comment by klyde is highly likely to happen if everyone across the whole world can enter. Just imagine if this lottery info found it's way into the Metro paper on Monday!!!
Now this quote below by viperuk is making a lot more sense to me. I also have my fingers crossed that viperuk is right - because otherwise the chances of winning are very very very slim.
Im not sure if anyone has made this suggestion about how the draw will be made. Thoughts!!! :0)

That might be true viperuk! At least I hope it is. On their very own site POW have stated the reason for using this process of purchasing was to 'discourage flipping'. If it's left open for the world and his wife to enter the lotto process, then i'm afraid they are opening it up to even more 'flipping' abuse.

I hope this is right. Interestingly I have 2 email addys on the POW mailing list - my home one and my work address. I only received the POW mailout about the raffle to my home email addy, which has been registered with POW for about 3 years and not to my work one which, due to a change of address, has been registered for only a few months.
