Banksy Donuts Print, by Deleted on Jul 27, 2009 10:34:47 GMT 1, i know obviously this print nor Banksy means a whole lot to a huge number of the people on here....but if you really want to continually discuss value and flipping potential and how best to cheat the system...why not start a thread in sales?
I'm finding the discussion crass at best and fucking boring at worst
give it break PLEASE people

Banksy Donuts Print, by Andy'77 on Jul 27, 2009 10:35:26 GMT 1, While previous releases weren't fair at least some effort was required to get one. I personally think a Sunday evening online release is the best option giving everyone equal opportunity but still requiring a bit of effort to get one.

Banksy Donuts Print, by hero on Jul 27, 2009 10:43:15 GMT 1, please dont bite my hand off here, but I feel that if it was an Obama/Mccain print - its a bit late. Surely if he wanted to do something for that period he would have done it when he had the pet store rather than 6 months later?
personally i think its a fun image, nothing more, the joke is in the forces protecting the doughnuts and the colour variants is just to make the edition a bit more exciting and to give a choice with the lottery...but i may be wrong

I'd counter that by saying the 6 months grace gives us a chance to see how little things really have changed

Banksy Donuts Print, by Sliding on the Walls on Jul 27, 2009 10:53:29 GMT 1, Goof luck to everyone who has entered with the intention of keeping it, worst imaginable luck to all who entered with the intention to flip it. Hopefully someone can sabotage all ebay auctions that pop up after the winners are announced.
and remember - if you don't win, you can always get the .jpg image and print it up on your walls anyway!

Banksy Donuts Print, by hero on Jul 27, 2009 10:55:41 GMT 1, but you seem to be assuming that he had the idea at that point, and he knew it was not going to change,...and i think actually Obama has done a lot of good, just look at his recent allowance for domestic/sexual abuse victims to take refuge in america. I think a lot of people will dismiss obama, but the political system is slow, and I'd say that he always needs the backing of his party/congress before doing anything.

Banksy Donuts Print, by Deleted on Jul 27, 2009 11:17:51 GMT 1, I don't think we have to necessarily believe that the pink or brown was always part of the 'idea' at all, the simple premise that politicians are doughnuts alone would work, but when it came to creating the print i think the differing colour editions really adds to it
I also don't think we should see this as a damning slight on Obama at all - more that politics by it's very nature and the system in operation is a joke in itself
you know as well as i hero that Banksy takes a very broad approach to subject matters

Banksy Donuts Print, by redfred on Jul 27, 2009 11:47:56 GMT 1, Just to throw another slant on the debate regarding offices full of new Banksy fans hoping to get rich quick - POW in my mind have gone out of there way in the past to try and keep there customers happy, albeit you can't please all of the people all of the time! I would imagine that POW in line with most businesses would give repeat customers preference the same as most galleries do, to wittle out first time and possibly speculative buyers would be very easy. I'me equally sure that POW arent stupid and want maximium exposure from this release but are obviousely aware of the pitfalls of upsetting regular buyers by this type of release! Thoughts?

Banksy Donuts Print, by jamo on Jul 27, 2009 11:55:35 GMT 1, The odds do seem a bit steep...
Let's say 100,000 registering, 598 prints, no duplicate winners, makes approx. 1 in 167 chance. If the girlfriend registers too, half that.....
What worries me is a few people saying their 'whole office' has registered. Who told them? You? This is hardly going to help the chances of us fans and forum people..... (although helps your odds, that is if they decide to tell you). You bad person, you!

Banksy Donuts Print, by anthoz on Jul 27, 2009 12:26:30 GMT 1, It will be interesting, for me personally, to compare the portion of this new release that are flipped in relation to the percentage flipped following from a traditional fastest finger F5 release and also the lottery via the openday raffle release. My guess is that this way will lead to the highest percent. I think POW are fulfilling a useful purpose here, and that is to at least try something else, and listen to the many voices that have called for the online lottery after all previous releases. Whatever happens this time round at least there wont be the usual "online lottery would be fairer" debate afterwards.
On another note, I love the image. possibly for no other reason than pure aesthetics. It posesses the fine detail that S&S does and at the same time, holds for me more meaning than some of the earlier releases. I for one am not a purist and so can see the advantage of an image like this over the simplicity of a rat holding a placard for example. I agree that the message may not be as clever as barcode or as moving as napalm or IFTL but for me its fun, pleasing on the eye, and even more importantly can be hung in any room in the house without worry of strange glances

its not that complicated a system.. its simply there to make sure no email can be entered twice..
there will be hundreds of thousands of entries if not millions.. everyone and i mean everyone in the uk has heard about this and entered..
not good
i want one

I doubt it, you may be right though as nobody will really know what rules and parameters they will use.
This would count out new fans though really as not everyone registers for the emails and some may just check the site every so often.
In reality I suspect it will be a draw of the names in the hat, no hocus pocus or rules apart from 1 print per name. If they are planning to draw within 48 hours andhave 100,000 names they would have 100's of people working around the clock to cross reference names and IP addresses against all permutations.?

Banksy Donuts Print, by hlarmy on Jul 27, 2009 12:41:06 GMT 1, If you can believe what has been said in this thread, it doesn't take a genius to work out that very few genuine fans will be successful in getting one of these; this is the obvious downside. The upside is that many will hit the secondary market straight away, which will pull the resale value down. Couple this with my personal belief that this is a print that many will not want to spend £1k+ on it (I could be very wrong here!) and it should be (kind of) affordable to those who love the print and are happy to pay more than cost for it - I fall into this category, I'd love to win one but wouldn't pay much more than cost for it. I have entered the draw but won't be too disappointed if I don't get one. I just hope that many fellow forum members get one (and hang it), and more importantly they don't end up going to those looking to make a quick profit
It's all just a bit of fun anyway ... there are far more important things in life
