Nick Walker • TMA Moscow, by PUD on Nov 12, 2009 17:45:55 GMT 1, Can I ask why this is a good buy? Or why anyone was lucky? Are those days not gone?
It probably isn't a 'good buy' if the only reason to buy it is to make a profit, we all know that Nick's aftersales on prints ranges from just below cost to a maximum of 3x cost, likelihood is that you will be able to pick this up for around £550-£700 in a very short space of time.
With that in mind this isn't exactly one for the flippers, certainly not as a Banksy would be.
But.......there were over 2000 entries to win 150 prints, the price is pretty high in todays climate IMO should have been about £450 but still over 2000 wanted it. There have also been over 11000 hits on this thread, I am guessing that Nick is a little more popular than people make out, for some reason certain individuals are desperate for him to fail regardless.
All I can say is that I love the ability to buy from source, I hate to line the pockets of flippers who are just 'ticket touts' at the end of the day, they play on emotions to 'steal' from you, i can't bear the thought of giving them a £1 let alone several hundred.
I am quite happy for the ebay price to be less than cost, I hope lots of 'touts' get their fingers burned!!!!
And heres a little bit of info to help keep the aftermarket price down, THIS AINT THE LAST MORNING AFTER PRINT RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!

theres no way that all 150 prints were allocated via lottery. Not a chance. i wouldn't be suprised if less than 100 were given to random lottery winners. can't blame them. i'd be looking after my best customers too. it would also cut down on the amount that head initially for ebay. although i am sure loads will make it there sooner or later.

Wholly agree with this post by Slammer - that there's bugger all chance that prior to the 150 being raffled, that the mates, the cleaner and god knows who has possibly had their mitts on these prints pre raffle.
The amount of views of this post is staggering in real terms and not that many people have won, or at least admitted to have won. Certainly less as a percentage of the entried received / prints available than posts here / prints won

Hi Pud, sorry I think you got the wrong end stick, I meant the price over £500 for a limited edition seems very expensive to me (no matter how many colours paper weight etc) people saying yes I bagged one, why not just put them up on BRP and let people buy them as they like after all wasn't the red and black print thing ( I say thing as thought it was... anyway doesn't matter) and another TMA series back on there site for cost only a couple of months ago, after being sold out? I do rate NW work but feel the hype is far to much and I can only compare him to Mr B as in my mind he rides on the back, now thats another discussion. I own a couple of prints by Nick, so I've no need to slag him off and good for him for doing what he does, but in my own opinion will never be remembered, I think the last show/street work shows that. BUT I would never say don't buy it if you like it so its always each to there own, sorry about the rant!! Peace MA

Sorry but those days were just a matter of months ago.
The real good old days were when you could walk around BRP, sup an ice cold Asahi or two, admire the art without straining your neck to look past some gangsta flipper and his two 7ft wide cronies AND then... buy the print (if you actually liked it that is).

Nick Walker • TMA Moscow, by burger on Nov 13, 2009 18:20:50 GMT 1, So i didn't get one-
Reading through some of the posts here i have to agree that there is bugger all chance of getting a print via lottery -
Firstly i have queued in the past for hours - I've taken time off work because i have a passion for collecting this type of art.
It really peeves me when the gallery cops out by saying a print will be released via a lottery system - they of course would argue that this is the fairest way & i would agree if they actually invested in a website that could receive all the emails & then randomly generate winners whilst we were all logged onto it checking to see if we had won.
It's unlikely we would ever see anything like this as the present system could allow winners to be chosen.
So i can only conclude the following -
BRP likes to have a queue when it suits them IE a big NW release at London art fair or his last show, MUGS like me will queue & that helps their PR . When they need to fill their coffers its the classic 'the only fair way is by way of lottery' how can you call it a lottery anyway? Has anyone seen them put the names of everyone who entered into a hat & then drawn it with an independent monitor? Probably not.
However it makes sense to let your best customers 'win' a print even if some of them might be flippers.
The way i see it flippers have to be the galleries friend as the 2nd hand market is where we can gauge the true value of a print - it also creates hype about the artist & allows the galleries to start releasing & charging more & more for each print whilst still maintaining interest.
So i suppose if you truly want to stop flippers then maybe prints should be sold at what they could achieve on the 2nd hand market. Empire state £1500 at issue would that stop flippers?
Look i realise that BRP can't keep everyone happy & i have nothing against them if fact the last NW show they held was superbly run but i can't help feeling a little let down that they released this current print by lottery.
Anyway rant over I'll be trawling ebay in the next few weeks trying to buy a 'Moscow' at an inflated price - you see I'm as guilty as the next man of keeping these pesky flippers in business.
As they say you can't live with them & you can't live without them..................................

Very few forum winners...
No news of any later mails going out for any that weren't taken up first time...
I'm not trying to start a conspiracy theory, far from it, I just feel as if there should be a bit more information around...
Might be just me. It's Sunday night and Monday morning and another week of work is beckoning!

That's probably because they're worried that BRP will cancel their order. Wait until they've been delivered - there'll be plenty up I reckon.
