José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by monkeyballs on Dec 2, 2009 0:33:25 GMT 1, I will admit, that I have gone from loathing Parla, to somewhat admiring him. I have seen plenty Parla at Elms through the last few years and liked about 2 pieces. All the water colours have left me cold after an initial 'thats pretty' and I think the work needs to be at least 6 foot square before it even begins to match up to what I assume he is trying to portray, when you get the real sense of time elapsing and natural change and decay. As a result I would guess these prints will have a similar effect as the watercolours, initially visually appealing, but ultimately a compromise in what he truly aspires to create from his own mind (large scale, very much worked on and deeply layered and flaked work)

But if you want some for your collection, the 6 foot square is out of many peoples price range, so the print is an acceptable representation for the price being paid for it.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by curiousgeorge on Dec 3, 2009 11:28:47 GMT 1, I agree floating is not ideal for this size though adding a single or mount will mean very expensive framing costs if you want 99% uv protection (over-sized uv glass is far from cheap)

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by nex on Dec 3, 2009 11:30:13 GMT 1, call me a snob but if you buy this print and want to frame it well you're going to have to be willing to spend big bucks - this would be a centrepiece print in a living room/ bedroom

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by curiousgeorge on Dec 3, 2009 11:44:29 GMT 1, I'm prepared as i will be doing my own framing, the landscape format prints with mounts could be easily be £500+ for preservation level framing
Mine too will be the centrepiece, relegating other Art as I'm sure these will not work with other Art i own

With a print that size you don't want glass. It's going to be extremely heavy and easy to break. Acrylic is 1/2 the weight, but more expensive than glass.

They do make UV acrylic. Acrylite makes one that I can remember off the top of my head. I had the framer use UV acrylic on my Choe Death Blossom a couple weeks ago.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by skanky on Dec 3, 2009 19:16:34 GMT 1, Looking forward to seeing the quality of these, they really could be spectacular. I think they would look best in the brown John Jones frames used on the watercolours. Mega epensive frames though.

Just goes to show how this forum is more about the buying + selling of art rather than the art itself. The thread for the Parla's last show at Elms (one of the best shows I have seen) reached a whopping 4 pages - probably because no prints were available to purchase! urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=joseparla&action=display&thread=27914&page=1
interesting thought sand -
