José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Winter on Dec 11, 2009 23:06:19 GMT 1, Wasn't that interested then saw them in the flesh and thought they looked amazing to the point of changing my mind and buying one. Not remotely disappointing IMO.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Nico on Dec 12, 2009 9:37:05 GMT 1, Actually, this was my favourite, the colors are amazing, then was St Giles, and finally 184th Street. Still, too expensive IMO, so many good prints out there at the mo, prefer a few cheaper ones.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by sashaz on Dec 12, 2009 14:12:00 GMT 1, this one blows me away..... 80/100 World Touring Letter i'm officially done, i'm not purchasing 184th street. ;D
This is very rich in real life and I am really happy to have got the same one. Will look stunning in my bedroom on the rich brown wallpaper wall. I beleive this one has the richest colours of the 3.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by sfield on Dec 12, 2009 17:09:37 GMT 1, Took my WTL print to the framer today. The toughest decision for me is whether to use low reflective glass or not. I was shown a couple of samples and both give off a blue/green tint. Worried that the rich colours in the print will look colder due to this. Any thoughts/suggestions would be gratefully received! Thanks.

Museum glass. Clearview or some other good quality one. Well worth the extra £100.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Martin Whatson on Dec 12, 2009 17:30:15 GMT 1, I would ALWAYS go for museum glass if I could afford it! Alltho here in Norway it would be more like £200 extra for museum glass on a 1sqm+ framing job!

That's great. Thanks for the advice. Don't want to spend a load of money and not be happy!

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by Rude Copper on Dec 12, 2009 20:38:11 GMT 1, picked up st giles today, (bought wtl on the night) there are 4 and 7 left, so if you want one, get yer skates on, considering the price and the edition size, for these to sell out in this climate is testament to the quality of the prints, excellent work, and a credit to all involved.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by smallbylo on Dec 13, 2009 12:12:55 GMT 1, Hi ! My St Giles went to the framers yesterday and the excitement was sooo high! I didn't opened the tube following the instructions from Elms and when it appeared there was two big mouths opened for a while (mine and the framers that didn’t know Parlá).
We decided to frame it in a oak (I think it will provide some warmness and it goes fine with the background tones of the piece ) with a white paspartout (they don’t have the heavy one from Elms but they are going to ask out there). I know it’s going to be magnificent! I’ve never been so happy with any other purchase. It’s so great to share these emotions with you, people!

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by tsimpsons11 on Dec 13, 2009 16:30:49 GMT 1, I've been reading this thread for some time and wondering if these Parla prints are as good as the forum members say? so I made a decision mid week to travel to Elms on Friday, but just before I was about to leave I started to read about the Banksy release , so do I queue for the Banksy at half the price of a Parla or travel to Elms?
To cut a long story short I would like to say thank you to the forum members for a very special print.
My pre viewing favourite was St Giles and it looked stunning under the lights but I thought that the lighting played a large part of the St Giles' appeal, and after talking it over I realised that I couldn't replicate the gallery lighting and therefore lose alot of its finer detail and appeal, my concern was the print could appear very dark in appearance and attitude and not what I was looking for in my living room.
And whilst all three were breath taking I found myself taken back by 184th St, the composition , subtle overlapping on the borders, execution of detail and complimenting colours were superior imo, so im a very proud owner of a 184th St.

was wtl still available? their website says its unavailable but others said there were a few left. just curious. if it was available what were your thoughts about it? i definitely agree that st. giles needs a well lit room. i was thumbing though the adaptation/translation book last night and it's got a nice picture of the original st. giles. i was surprised to see that the print is different than the original. the print has a lot more calligraphy in it.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by tsimpsons11 on Dec 13, 2009 17:41:20 GMT 1, I think there was approx 10 prints available, but not sure of indiviual numbers. I thought WTL was like a snap shot of 184th (if that makes sense) albeit on a smaller scale, the majority of colours and techniques are present on 184th St. WTL just had too much going on, a little too cramped.
My advise would be to pay the extra for 184th St if still available.

I see it differently. I feel 184th loses lots of Parla's usual energy and vibrancy. This might result from a lack of the calligraphic script. Although its color is brilliant, I just don't experience the same intensity levels that I see in both St. Giles and WTL. It's rather cold, I reckon. Maybe that's what Parla wants to convey via 184th. Just my opinion though.

That will be his tag
I felt 184th would have worked far better at the size of St.Giles and vice versa

Hi mutate
I completely disagree but I think it's a compliment to Mr Parlas work that so many people can enjoy these prints and have there own personal view, in the case of 184th st I truely believe less is more, IMO he's tried to add as much detail and technique and that has over complicated both st giles and wtl.

This is definitely one thing on which we can both agree. It certainly is a very positive news for Parla. I think whether you enjoy 184th, St. Giles, WTL or other pieces, Parla has definitely carved out a niche in the contemporary art scene. In my opinion, he is a real player who will be sticking around for a long time to come. I would love to see what he will be pulling out of a hat. For now, we'll all enjoy our prints.
