matt small-this is england, by shavemysoul on Nov 10, 2007 0:01:23 GMT 1, I only got a couple of mobile cam pics FPR and they're poor quality. There were enough pics being taken. The guy who I presume was working for LSG would put the bloody camera down!

matt small-this is england, by a4mnt on Nov 10, 2007 0:05:36 GMT 1, I had a great time last night. Matt is such an easy going guy, so friendly. Its just made his art all the more interesting for me knowing what the artist was like. I would love to have bought one of his pieces instead of some of the latest prints, but there you go.
Gary - I was looking at Lawrence for ages on the tube, in the show program, so, nice buy. And of course great to meet you and your good lady wife, keepin it real in Norwich ;D
Carlo - Conor Harrington is fantastic as well. No point comparing the two artists, let them both be brilliant.
Mike - if you'd seen Karen, you may have changed your mind. Another forum member snapped her up and he was well chuffed. She was the only concrete piece in perspex and was fantastic, possibly my favourite piece of the night.
Ranger - you know Matt isn't going to do street. As he said, the only way he could do it is by dropping one of the concrete pieces somewhere. Imagine finding one of those for free! I can't see it happening and I undertstand his retinence to not want to encroach on a neighbouring art 'scene'.
On the subject of arty farty talk, I had an interesting conversation with Sarah from BRP. Apart from being very nice to talk to, whilst i no doubt made an idiot of myself, she explained the meaning behind the whole swoon/dave elliot installation at their opening night.
There wasn't one.
All the talk after the BRP show of what the huge brown thing meant blah blah blah......it meant nothing. It was just the artists having fun. So I'm told. As I said to her, if people looked into the hidden meanings of every record that was made, they would spend a lot of time looking for something that wasn't there.
Some things can be created purely for the joy they give, without having to direct your thoughts elsewhere.
Luckily this kind of shallow ability comes easily to me

matt small-this is england, by carlito on Nov 10, 2007 0:25:25 GMT 1, know what you're saying mate...just as others in this thread have professed to not seeing much emotion 'depth' to Matt's work, I feel that way about Connor's, although he's a great artist I just him find very sterile / photographic ... horses for courses... did mine come in?

matt small-this is england, by Zippy on Nov 10, 2007 1:06:40 GMT 1, My Matt Small is still pretty much my favourite of his. He doesn't like being photographed though. His expression changes from being wise & benevolent, to looking a bit narked. Also my camera doesn't focus very well since my mate dropped it on the lens a couple of weeks ago. :-(
Its great everyone is expressing their opinions. To me, this is one of the best i've seen. Please let me know if you ever want to swap / sell it!! Z

A couple of those below. A lot of work was behind perspex, not good for reflection

matt small-this is england, by ejvaze on Nov 10, 2007 1:55:53 GMT 1, Well it was my 1st time viewing Matt Smalls work Big Thanks to Frankie who gave me his invite. As for Matt's work there is nothing like seeing it in the flesh. I have only ever viewed Matt's work on the computer screen and have obviously been missing out.
Loved his work on Metal in particular Mehmet loved the use of the grills. Loved the concrete stuff and loved some of the female portraits in particular Karen.
Both Karen and Mehmet were sold before I got there. However I am not one to jump in I like to look and think before I buy so maybe next time. Some of the metal pieces were huge and well I haven't got the space. The drawings were very good but I just loved the colour of Matts work which was a big surprise to me, for some unknown reason I had not expected such an explosion of colour.
I was really pleased to meet Matt in person and hear him explain how he does his work, a lovely talented guy.
It was also great to meet a few forum members for the first time, recognised crackawacka and FPR no problems after seeing pics on the forum. also nice to meet curley and carlito and of course yomster and misterframeman
There seemed from this thread to be a few more forum members floating around last night. Next time I suggest after viewing aim for the bar, ;D I wasn't there all the time honest but thats the place I seemed to catch up with people. ;D

I've ordered a 'Cracka' tshirt so it may make me easier to spot at openings and consequently other forum members. If that helps.

matt small-this is england, by bob1 on Nov 10, 2007 22:19:11 GMT 1, Unfortunately I only a print, a really good quality print and beautiful image but alas it just does not compare to the originals, you really do have to see them in person to really appreciate them. Me and friends were really blown away buy the show, the man just keeps on upping his game. If you ain't gone get your ass down there and see for yourself.

Or is the reason for you posting them just because you have a room full of them to sell?

Jan - please can you keep the conversations relevant as Jaypaav suggests. I won't delete these posts but would be grateful if you could bear it in mind in future. Thanks.

matt small-this is england, by jan-has-art on Nov 12, 2007 6:25:01 GMT 1, ok,
Posting sam dillemans in this topic was not my best idea, sorry for this ! Saying that his pieces are junk and that i am spamming all the threads is also a "small" bridge too far i believe.
I'm sure that the links i posted on this forum are more than welcome by some of the members.
I really like a lot of the (british) street artists but i am also proud of (IMO) some of the most promising Belgian artists.
About the Dillemans print...no i don't have a full wall. If someone wants the site i will give him.

He's a really interesting bloke even when he's half cut at the tail end of a long night. He was chatting to me about how you can divide all faces in world into 6 basic types. i would love to go that gig, I'm going to try to make it.
