Micallef LA Show..., by jam on Aug 14, 2007 11:54:15 GMT 1, There is a guest list, and invitations are sent to those on that list. If you don't have your name on the list and an invite in hand, you haven't a prayer of getting in. I do wonder if anyone has a good idea of how many people are on the list.

Micallef LA Show..., by Rude Copper on Aug 14, 2007 13:56:19 GMT 1, The article says : For his first exhibition in LA, Micallef will present new work including Peacekeeper an arresting image of an armed soldier, in a pastel uniform. Itโs an incongruous pairing of the violent and the delicate, all beautifully painted. The new show will explore Micallefโs fascination with contemporary religion, gun culture and the fate of our children. His practice could be summarised as a โCritical Popโ that exposes the dark and troubling underbelly beneath our sugar-coated consumer society. this image is old as f**k my mate andrew owns it, cost him uhnder a grand a few years ago. i guarantee this is not new at all
really? i heard this had been sold to anthony kiedis of the RHCP.

Micallef LA Show..., by Jamesy Wamesy on Aug 14, 2007 14:22:29 GMT 1, does anyone know how many people were invited at the preview? would be great if they (LAZ) would have enough prints for everyone attending.
I am led to believe that there will be 800 prints (4x200) available. You will not be aloud to buy multiple prints of any one piece.
So there should be a few for us all. ;D

Maybe people should be a bit more concerned about what they look like. Or doesn't that matter anymore ? People flying half way around the world to queue for hours to buy a print that they've never seen for an unknown price and with no guarantee of availability but based on rumour and gossip. Come on people... it's like some bizaar experiment in group psychology. Consider this, there isn't one commercially available image that I'm aware of, in the history of the world ! that's ever created such a desire to be owned. If people knew for a fact, that this image (that no-ones yet seen) would trade for the same or less the weeks and months and years after..How many people would be going to the show.
It's getting so ugly and stupid.. some people to need to check their heads.

Micallef LA Show..., by stuey09 on Aug 14, 2007 16:39:56 GMT 1, But this is what the Galleries want. Mild panic in case those who aren't on the genuine VIP list miss out. Therefore a section of punters will go to irrational lengths in order to secure a print. Can't help feeling there is only one winner in this, and it ain't the poor sod who's just booked a ticket to LAX.

Micallef LA Show..., by brainthedog on Aug 14, 2007 17:05:58 GMT 1, regardless what the quality of the prints/art will be, it's going to be a very exciting event. with so much hype and expectation, Micallef's going to either exceed expectations or sorely disappoint. I for one am going as I missed out on the Banksy show and would love an opportunity to see some great art in person. The last show I went to was the Mark Ryden Tree Show exhibit and I gotta say it was pretty damn cool. I'll definitely pick up a few prints (and hopefully one for a fellow board member) but, it would be for my personal collection not to flip.
Regardless, 20 years from now we're going to look back and laugh...you decide what reason.

panic to get a 2000 gbp print. Yes, a print and an edition of 200. For those involved we'll look back one day and reminisce the absurdity. I remember the masses justifying soaring stock prices of the high flying tech stocks not too long ago
Anyway, I think I'm one of the very few who has a handful of banksy/micallef pieces and not pumping away
