Yeah no surprise about Micallef really.....my mate bought an older print ( which he said was awesome) from Britart last week....it was ยฃ450 on monday...they were ยฃ900 on wednesday....and i was quoted ยฃ1200 on Friday! Sold out on Saturday!!! He has really taken off the last few weeks...prob cos of the show at Laz ( which is the nuts ).

am i alone, or does anyone else prefer the B&W eyestorms to the color ones? I bought "Giant Freak" off of eyestorm and it's an absolute corker. This is possibly my favourite Micallef and a real talking point. Friends have all commented on this litho, with such different interpretations and meanings to the image, it's really satisfying to see art do this! There is such a dark beauty in this painting, it's sad but also full of warmth and optimism. Each time I look, I find new perspectives in it. So yes, in answer to your question the B/W prints are the mutts. But I woudn't mind a colour happy fucked up Nuclear one all the same. |

I'm with you on that, think the colour ones are a bit TOO MUCH SUGAR !.. massive sugar kick and then.. a downer. Much much prefer the B&W pritns on eyestorm

I think the recent sold out Lazarides show combined with the POW prints selling out has pushed Antony Micallef into 'hot' territory. Ebay is now carrying quite a few prints whereas a month or so ago there was nothing. I unfortunately hung about too long on the POW prints so looked to Eyestorm. If anybody is interested they told me that they are down to less than 25 on the Shibuya Crossing so I put my order in today. Personally I think Micallef is going to get very big.
Worth looking at www.opus-art.com for prices if you don't believe me!

I'm guessing they're anticipating that level of growth. I think the ยฃ350 mark for his work is extremely good value bearing in mind that the editions are of only 95 and that he actually bothers to sign his work!
