Blek - PartII - Le Spectacle, by idris on May 8, 2008 20:22:09 GMT 1, Hello Peeps
Having just left the show - earlier than I wud have liked in order to catch my train home to Leeds - can I just say
BRP had 50 Limited Edition Books priced at £195 which included a signed print - the book is limited to 250
The queue was probably 25 deep at approx 5pm and when I left, the queue had reached the front gates of the entrance to BRP. The queue for Bleks autograph ran from the back of the gallery to the front doors ... the queue to pay was equally long.
(any other queues i've missed out on .......) yes, the queues for the prints weren't that bad actually !!
Altogether there were 8 prints - priced between 150 & 550 - editions sizes ran from 75 to 250 (might have been 200 - not entirely sure)
I'm sure some1 will post pics of the actual prints and canvases.
Canvase were HUGE!!! ones I saw were priced between 8 & 25k. Might have been some priced cheaper - others who attened the show might know better.
Turn out was huge - the art on display I thought was awesome but having just rushed to get the train I haven't had time to digest all that I saw & of course reflect on the pics that i've taken.
Also took in the cans festival - it was just good to see so much art and artists allowed to express their work.
All in all a great day out - had a chat with Insite - was good to see you Dave & saw a few faces from the NW show - probably not the last time i'll be seeing the same faces
So, that's it. On my way home on the train that's giving me the jips coz its so bloody hot but i'd do it again.
BRP put on an excellent show again - and thanks should go to Mike - Sarah - Leon and all the very patient and extremely helpful crew.
Of course a huge thanks to a very talented, friendly and generally good chap in Blek - who's probably got tons more signing to get thru!!
Idris

Blek - PartII - Le Spectacle, by killerkellah on May 9, 2008 8:57:23 GMT 1, liked the show, good to see some old favs and some new stuff. Blek deserves all the credit he gets.
did think some of the pieces were a little over priced - but good to see that most of them had sold out.

I had a great night talking bollocks at anyone who'd listen, picked up one of the box sets earlier so didn't need to queue for anything but spent most of the evening queing up with Carlito and Cracka, oh well I do like a good queue

Blek - PartII - Le Spectacle, by stender on May 9, 2008 9:34:38 GMT 1, Great show and nice free beer! ;D
Managed to get a ltd ed book and got it signed by blek. He put a nice comment and drew a rat on it too. A very nice bloke.
There were some nice prints available. Caravagio print was v nice and I also liked running man and the 4 different colour dog prints.
And Well done BRP for a very well organised event. They gave out numbers to the first 50 in line to guarantee a book, organised the queue and then let a few in at a time giving you time to browse instead of a free for all. Even brought beers out to those of us queuing. Mike even sorted me out when I had pin mumber problems with my c/c. Very nice people.

Blek - PartII - Le Spectacle, by danvnuk on May 9, 2008 11:00:19 GMT 1, I'll post my thoughts - and will no doubt get lynched..... ;D
I decided to go at the last minute.
Had a few beers in the Carpenters Arms down the road, and then walked over there at 6pm - to be confronted by a bit of a queue......after lining up for 45 minutes, I finally got in.
Once inside, I was confronted by another gallery length queue for books, and yet another gallery length queue for getting them signed. (Neither of which I joined)
As for the art.
I wanted to see Blek's stuff in the flesh, to be 'sold' by it......and, I hate to be negative (again) but I feel the same way about Blek's work as I do at Nick Walker's - Looks Pretty, and technically great , but none of the images challenge, poke fun, ask questions. They're just pretty images. (And not so pretty - spongebob squarepants 25 grand sold anyone?!!!)
There was also a profusion of narcissm in his work that baffled me. Blek as Elvis, Blek as Jesus in the last supper, Blek's head on a robot body. What does it say as art - apart from that Blek thinks he's great?
perhaps I'm missing some hidden depths or meaning, but I very much doubt it.
I was discussing this lack of substance or meaning with a few people at the show, and it was pointed out that Blek's art is supposed to be 'pretty' and beautify the Paris streets. In which case, the obvious conclusion is - that's where it should stay. I just don't think it works on Canvas or on Print.
On a positive note - BRP put on a great show, enjoyed the beer, seeing the usual (and not so usual) suspects and discussing the art.
