Nick Walker ~ Apish Angel ~ AP confusion, by Vsix on Feb 11, 2008 23:59:13 GMT 1, I recently purchased an Apish Angel Artist Proof print. It has a Black Rat Press certificate of authenticity.
But the print is signed and marked 'AP'. I was expecting it to be numbered. Is this normal?, how many AP's are in existence?

There was a seller who sold a couple, and a few Apish Angels for that matter.

Yes, it was recently purchased on the bay. I have not purchased an AP before, I would have expected it to be numbered, how can I be sure its a limited edition without a number?

Nick Walker ~ Apish Angel ~ AP confusion, by romanywg on Feb 12, 2008 0:22:58 GMT 1, A/P's aren't usually numbered. Only know of Souledoutstudios that actually number them, of coarse I'm sure there must be plenty of others though. Some Galleries let you know the quantity of A/P's, like Opusunderground recently, but more often than not it is unknown. A/P's are usually no different from the normal run and therefore worth no more although it seems a lot of people seem to ask more for an A/P.

Nick Walker ~ Apish Angel ~ AP confusion, by Ripper1331 on Feb 12, 2008 1:11:48 GMT 1, A/P's should be numbered but they should be numbered in roman numerals and be less than 10% of the print run. This rule appears to have gone out the window when dealing with streat art. AP's shouldn't be anymore than regular prints unless the print was pulled by hand in which case the AP's are the "best" of the lot.
There are a whole bunch of standard printing guidelines that I posted here a few months ago and I'll try and find the link.

Nick Walker ~ Apish Angel ~ AP confusion, by gtf on Feb 12, 2008 2:10:48 GMT 1, Contact Black Rat Press and ask them how many Artists Prints there are. They will almost certainly know.
On a rare occasion the Certificate of Authenticity will give the number of artist proofs. The COA for Nick's Bristol TMA detailed an edition size of 99 with 12 AP's and 3 canvases.
BTW I bid on a Apish Angel AP a couple of weeks ago but didn't win. I got contacted by the seller soon after the auction ended to say he had a 2nd AP and was I interested in it at the price I bid (just over standard cost). I saw the offer too late to accept, but his offer made me a bit suspicious anyway.

Indeed, unless the AP is different they're worth exactly the same really

Nick Walker ~ Apish Angel ~ AP confusion, by uac on Feb 12, 2008 21:49:52 GMT 1, aps can be numbered or not i suppose its down to the discretion of the artist. I think most artists experiment with the aps thats why theyre asked for above numbers

Just to let you know, i called Black Rat Press to buy an Apish Angel AP and was told there was a run of only 10. Being his main logo and his AKA i thought it was well worth buying! especially as i love the image!

Just wondering who this seller was? reason being I bought Apish Angel numbered print from a guy on ebay back in October (I paid ยฃ102!!!!) and on the listing it was numbered 52/150. When I received my print there was no COA so I contacted the seller and asked for my BRP COA which he said in the listing would be sent with the print. His reply was "Can you remind me which number print it was?" which obviously made me suspicious. When I double checked the print I saw that it actually was 48/150 and not 52/150 as listed. I responded to the seller and made my concern clear - however he never replied and about a week or so later he disappeared off ebay (I just got the message 'Seller no longer listed') Anyway, I contacted BRP and when I explained my story they immediately reassured me that my print was genuine and that they were familiar with the seller (Paul Griffiths I think his name was) as he bought "in bulk" from them. They have since authenticated my print and provided COA (Many thanks BRP). My Apish Angel now sits proudly in a frame, in a room with my framed Mona Shot!

Nick Walker ~ Apish Angel ~ AP confusion, by f5ers on Jun 14, 2008 19:12:11 GMT 1, I'm suprised that apish angel is relatively cheap in comparison to some of nicks other prints... This print is pretty damn good in the ink and its used as the image to front the nick walker forum... just suprised there is more demand for this one
