This one would be nearer. www.flickr.com/photos/romanywg/2233003163/in/set-72157603798590354/ [/quote]
Spectacular!
I was drawn to Nick Walker's TMA series because it represents a vision that means something to me. Both thematically, and technically. You see, I really like the idea of "painting a town" and by that I mean figuratively mostly and realistically, well there is a time and place. Then, as far as the prints and images are concerned, i love the old classic black and white feel to the images of the city and then the color just seems to pop. it's an intense combination that suits my taste. take care, Todd

That's what I was trying to say. It makes more sense when I read how you have written it though.

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by top on Apr 9, 2008 23:14:26 GMT 1, An 'art appreciation' question. We did one of these recently on an SPQR thread and, quel fu cki n suprise - art was discussed. Ya should have been there... Sooooo - who bought anything by Nick (OG or print) in the last, say 2 years? If you did - why? If ya didn't - why do you want it now? I didn't. Almost bought a headless astro 'bout a year ago and nearly bought vandals lots of times. Quite liked Nikers and had agreed a price for a Moona 12 months ago but didn't complete. Cos, whilst I quite liked it, I didn't love it and other pieces came first. Now, people are travelling from the four corners to queue for a print they haven't seen... Why???
Excellent paulypaul!!
Glad you said the above mate, bout f**king time someone did.. utmost respect for what you wrote..finally the truth from someone who cares!! ..bang on
Nick Walker is not for me, just posting the newsletter I received for his 'true' fans here (see pezlow post back a page)..
Doubt many will stand up and answer your post..just demonstrates your point further.
adding my 2p to paulypauls ..s**t were gonna be rich! hahaha! ;D

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by romanywg on Apr 9, 2008 23:29:37 GMT 1, I haven't ever bought anything of Nicks and possibly never will. But his Vandal series IMO has been his best work to date. I think Nicks Carmichael Show was his strongest to date and this one will even surpass that. The Vandal, especially the one shoving two fingers up, are pieces that work well on canvas and would undoubtedly work well as street pieces also. The paint thrower too. By being drawn to his present work I then start to look back through his past and see images I barely knew of but appreciate highly. There are images I'm not too keen on, Nikers, aerosol cans, babies, but I would have loved to have bought an early apish angel. It's not all our fault we didn't collect his work before Bonhams but don't tar us all with the same brush just because we didn't have foresight that others did. I think Nicks work will go from strength to strength. I may not be able to afford it but I can go to a Nick Walker Show and enjoy the art.

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by artstylee on Apr 9, 2008 23:29:54 GMT 1, At the BLEK LE RAT SHOW IN LA hosted by Shepard Fairey's Studio One Gallery in LA a few days ago. They Gave Out Numbered Stickers/Tickets to the First 50 people who were going to be buying prints and everything flowed quite smoothly. Makes alot of sense. Fair as it's going to get.
Wonder what the EDITION SIZE for 2 NW'ers are going to be? Butterfly series great.

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by kahuna on Apr 9, 2008 23:41:25 GMT 1, IMHO, Nick Walker is becoming the Paul Smith of the urban art world. Updating classic British images and giving them his own unique twist.
The Vandal series is excellent. The pinstripe suit and the bowler hat show that there is perhaps a little vandal even in the most upright of citizens. Everyone I share it with interprets the work totally differently
For me, TMA series has become a must have and provides a humorous and sentimental reminder of the cities where I have lived or visted regularly and have many great memories of.
Like everthing else in life, we all enjoy different things and I would rather debate art over politics or religion.

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by quicksnap on Apr 9, 2008 23:45:48 GMT 1, personally, i like his work. i wanted to go to the LA show and would have bought a print, but i had to be out of town for work. i have missed his onsales a few times. i am going to try for one online, if i don't get it, i won't be heartbroken, but it would be nice. i'll say that living in the US. it's pretty hard to keep up with british or european releases. i missed out on stop and search because i had been up all night all week and passed out in my chair, in front of my computer literally less than 15 minutes before it went on sale. i miss out on a lot of releases because they are between 4am and 6am for me

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by dinomaa on Apr 10, 2008 0:00:59 GMT 1, its not a bad idea at all. gonna think on it and any possible negatives. What i should mention is that the print at the show is going to be in the ยฃ650 - ยฃ1000 price range as it is a little special and difficult to make. Just a pre warning so people dont queue all day to find out.
Missed this post. Shocked by the price! Saw an original silver spray cans go for a grand on ebay a couple of days ago now nearly that for a print of 75! Anyone else think this is too steep?

Nick Walker V for Vandalism, by graeme501 on Apr 10, 2008 0:03:53 GMT 1, the main reasons i am going down are :
1. i live in glasgow and dundee, there is very little to see street art wise, and i enjoy the shows in london 2. i am off uni for easter 3. i owe frankie a rather large some of cash, so i have an excuse to go down to london
i will try and get a print, coz i like the image, yes i have bought 2 or 3 nick walker pieces before the 'boom' however, if i dont get the print, it wont make any difference to my enjoyment of the show, because i seldom get to go
if i go down to the gallery, and theres less than 75 people, then yeah ill que, if not, ill go explore london and have some fun

I would not normally be argumentative about stuff like this but you got my goat!
