NEW EINE ON STELLA, by seidbereit on Apr 16, 2008 19:28:36 GMT 1, On a happier note (compared with the rubbish 3D that arrived this morning) these two beauties from Eine were also waiting for me in the hall this afternoon! ;D ;D
1) VANDALS (90 x 90cm) on concrete-primed canvas, and 2) a commissioned piece "MAUER" (the German word for "walls" and which is also the term used by the natives of Germany when they're referring to the Berlin Wall in particular). Really rough textured concrete-priming on the canvas with bronze powder rubbed in to replicate rusting and black paint rubbed in to replicate general city/street dirt.
Here's a pic of the MAUER canvas before Ben did the lettering on it (those are his toes
No one is gonna tell me these are "merely words" - they are outstanding in the flesh and absolutely captivating (to borrow Harveyn's totally appropriate description from above). The Vandals canvas was Ben's own work, I just spotted it in the background on a pic he sent me and asked about it and couldn't pass it up when I heard it was there for the taking.
The mauer piece, as I said, was a commission and Ben was an absolute gent to deal with throughout always keeping in touch and letting me know what was happening and sending the odd progress photo (such as above) with descriptions of how he got to the effect he produced. A totally fascinating process and you feel somehow honoured (well I did) to have been included in his thinking and creative processes which makes the end result all the more valuable to have. And by honoured I don't mean that he made you feel he was doing you some huge favour - quite the opposite. A truly enjoyable experience and one I will be hopefully delving into again sometime soon!
Deilghted!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

NEW EINE ON STELLA, by seidbereit on Apr 17, 2008 11:13:48 GMT 1, Cheers folks...
scavos: I'll have plenty of time to enjoy these, mate as they'll all be hanging somewhere close to the desk I'm constantly chained to ... I'd be down at the framers with them right now if it wasn't bucketing down rain outside!
theycallmesteven: these are my second and third canvases (I initially only wanted the MAUER one but like I said, I spotted the VANDALS in the background of a pic Ben sent me and couldn't pass up on it... ). I also have the SCARY canvas which is why I got MAUER as I want to hang MAUER below SCARY.. (which should look ace) and two metal signs with EINE on them and a couple of prints. I'll have to shed something soon though (but not the eines) to recoup a few pounds.

NEW EINE ON STELLA, by seidbereit on Apr 17, 2008 11:36:32 GMT 1, Cheers GD... I too wondered about that question you asked before I rudely butted in to show off (i.e. the question about "Because I'm worthless" on a bridge). Does anyone know if that was Ben or does he also have photos of banksy work on his site?

NEW EINE ON STELLA, by Wiseblood on Apr 17, 2008 11:45:07 GMT 1, Ben has stated that he helped banksy paint a lot of the rats around london in the early days, so maybe he did this and banksy took the idea from him?

I considered just hanging them as they were - I already had the scary one up like that for a while, but I reckon they'd look quite good in a plainish, maybe quite chunky frame with about 6 inches of backboard visible all round the canvas... Not sure about colours though (all the rest of the frames in the room they're in are white, so might stick to that scheme) but just wanted to take one down to the framer to hold different frame profiles against it and see how it works.
